Hello all,
My name is Amon and I am a Disability Support worker based in Sydney. I am here to get a better understanding off the issues, concerns that seniors may be having and also see if I can use the information here to help my elderly relatives.
Amon!

Welcome also Amon. To sum up my opinion of the Australian welfare system as a severely disabled person. I would say it is totally incompetent and heartless at best and criminal at worst and in need of a royal commission. In twenty years since my disability ocurred by far the hardest thing I have had to deal with is Centrlink. And it is never ending so far. Hope you can sort it all out.

Hi Nomadic,
Are you eligible for the NDIS? I know - Centrelink is a tough one. I believe NDIS is what is supposed to help here. We'll see how it goes next year.
I was reading that there are plans for a NDIS system for aged care as well. You guys heard about this?

Susan is having so many thought bubbles lately I doubt she can remember the last one. But its a true sign of a real LNP member that seems to think they have to "fix" everything to do with welfare but cutting or changing it.

Hi Amon, I know nothing at all about NDIS. all my experience is in regards to pension portability apart from all the other bad experiences that centrelink seem to put everyone through.

NDIS will be state based and run by each. The purpose of NDIS is still obscure but from my reading it SHOULD provide care services for those who till now did not have such. Most states argued that each had sufficient services but that was clearly not the case. NDIS was Gillards idea and as we well know, she had no concern whatsover for aged pension or others. NDIS comes to the states though with federal funding, and they still argue how it will be spent.
That aside portability of payment is still the issue with many. Its determination remains for many obscure. Rules for some, rules for others, and a clear issue with those who have been absent from Aust for a period of time. AWLR does cover that though, as its very clear in the legislation that you must from age 16 till 65, have been a resident to aquire such.
My fear though is McClure will do drastic things should govt decide to enact his findings. And his findings are based puely on opinion of an appointed clot from Abbotts era. McClure was to present before Xmas 2015, yet nothing has occured.
One of McClures ideas was though to actually increase the payment for many on DSP who were classified as severe under the new tables of impairment? McClure makes no definition of his opinion of impairment tables and this makes many wonder if he will indeed alter those again.
Again though, these are symbols which the LNP enjoy. To fiddle and alter and change. The fear mongering though needs to cease, as does its constant reminder in the MSM press at times that trigger it. Purely for gratification to a list of readers and viewers who are told over and over again that welfare is a rort, and its THEIR money. Its not their money and never was.
There hasnt been though a welfare attack for a while, but Xmas is due and I am sure some in the nasty department will think why not now.
Again though, I hear no mutterings within the corridors of Canberra for the slightest thought of having an attack on us again. Its all too hard and as many have said, both ALP and LNP did what they set out to, which was modify the impairment tables in 2013 or so. Its done, many were caught up, many were flicked. That is a national disgrace.

Possibly NDIS would involve themselves with pensioners who need some sort of care by reasons of advanced old age. I cannot see this government wanting to spend anymore money on welfare than they have to though.

G'day AmonIt is great that you have put yourself on this board. I have put up some posts of my experience with NDIS. Do you think the NDIS might be interested in funding overseas DSP recipient services such as this forum?

Hi nomadic, You can use the following link to determine if you are eligible for the NDIS. www.ndis.gov.au/ndis-access-checklistIf you are over 65 - you will not be eligible. I am assuming not everyone on this board is over 65?
