I was wondering what the standard of living from those abroad are like. Namely, China and Indonesia. If it's not too intrusive to ask, could I get a list of expenditures? If you're not comfortable with posting it publicly and would rather message me privately that's fine too. If you want to know more about me, right after this thread I'll be creating an introduction under 'New Members' where you can get acquainted with me.

While living overseas your principal expenditure will be rent, you have to decide how you want to live and how much of your pension you want to outlay.
Also a lot of countries that look outwardly friendly to foreigners have difficult residential visa requirements. I suggest spending a few months as a long term tourist in your preferred locality before making a residential decision.

I'm moving this thread to "Living Overseas on the Pension", there's some good advice there.

Not bad, just differences that we all need to deal with. I'm in the Philippines which presents itself as English speaking but it varies. Plus, if you are not connected locally it can take some time to learn how the locals survive. I spend all my pension but for that I get a house, slow but unlimited internet, 2 tv's, 2 wifi tablets, a decent bed, refrigerates, air con, decent furniture, transport at my front door, market that will sell me any food I might desire. What is not to like? I'd be careful of China unless you are racially aligned. They are a bit racist, in their own way. I'm a bit 'suss' on Indonesia. Maybe think about other places as well. Anyway, all the best.

Hi Chaotic and welcome. If you have unlimited pension portability then for me Thailand is great as I see it. As long as you can tolerate illogical madness at times then you will survive. Really cheap as after I pay yearly rent of under A$2,000. I can easily live on A$100.00 a week so I save enough to travel a bit also. Food is fantastic and cheap and locals are friendly especially away from the tourist traps and as long as you live by their ways. I fit in fine and love it for the most part but many don't. I have most things i want on DSP and is far better than homeless in Oz. good luck.
