Hi. I'm a dsp recipient. I sent a letter to CL simply telling them I was going overseas for 30 days in July.
I found a reply letter in the mail today (could have arrived yesterday). I'll paraphrase the relevant bit:
Does this mean I can expect a letter telling me I need to attend a medical review sometime soon? Or is it just a scary way of saying I need to undergo a review if I want to paid for longer?
What do?

Hi there, I think it's because your going for more than 28 days. Dsp can travel no more than 28 days in a year. I believe it's this. They may review you, to see if you can continue to be paid dsp past 28 days out of Australia.
Banjo has better knowledge in this area than I do.
Don't worry, but I'm sure that's what it's about. The extra days after 28 days.

They are giving you the opportunity to be assessed for unlimited portability, and it appears that they may do this if you overstay to the point where your DSP is cancelled.
What will actually happen is that you will be paid for 28 days and your pension will be suspended for two days until you return. You can overstay without payment for up to 13 weeks.
Make sure you call them when you get back in case they don't get the message from immigration and check you back in.

So nigel doesn't have to attend a compulsory medical review because his overseas for more then 28 days, he only has to do a medical review if he wants to apply for U.P or if he stays overseas for more then 13 weeks and his DSP is cancelled?

Thanks Banjo.
Would it be a good idea to try and phone them to confirm that that is indeed the case? I ask, because I understand that trying to phone CL is a nightmare. I usually go to my local office if I need to contact them, or send them a letter.
