We need to form a plan and do it soon. Now is the time to write or email politicians and point out that the 800,000 DSP recipients as well as the many thousands of people who cannot get on the DSP and will never get a job made a strong contribution to the current political chaos.
Their statisticians will be working overtime trying to work out the swing against the major parties and we need to give them a few suggestions. I've got a few personal issues at the moment but will try to come up with a letter that we can work on so we're all on the same page.
Suggestions?

Well I intend to formulate a letter for the new senators in Lambie, Hinch, Mr X and Hanson and try to gauge their position on Welfare in general and specific topics like portability, the welfare card and reviews. I'm not great at writing letters though

Banjo, we should never underestimate "People Power," as we are many, they are few (The 1% ruling class).
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," commonly known as "The Golden Rule," which certain politicians ought to be reminded of!
When addressing the person one writes to, let them know of how they would fell, to walk at least a mile in my shoes, how would you fell to have this done to you?
There are a few selfish & greedy individuals out there, who ought to take notice. Most likely these selfish & self absorbed types of fools, do not believe in Karma, these will be in for a rude awakening one day, guaranteed! The media is owned by materialists (Murdoch is one of those) btw, this is why they promote it.
I also hope, that this helps people here to know, that there is justice & order out there...

I'm not great at writing letters though You may find Lambie can read but doesn't, Hinch only reads about himself, Hanson can't read at all and Mr X will tell you want you want to hear. others might disagree but if they write to the senators and post their replies, I will be happy to be corrected.

Love this idea. Unity and people power can triumph when it needs to.

Banjo, yes, I always think the best approach is to write directly (via e-mail these days, but paper letters can work well, of course) to local members, including local Council members for more local issues. The latter can (in my case, anyhow) often be reached by telephone, which really makes the appeal personal. Rants and raves (which I feel like doing sometimes) aren't really effective, IMHO. Short and polite expressions of concern and practical suggestions are, I think, the way to go. Very long letters might not get read. Probably regular contact, every few months, makes a more lasting impression than one-offs. Does it work? Maybe once in a while it can tip the scale. But it's sure worth a try. We just had our ALP candidate elected here in Macquarie, with a big swing. One of the Macquarie 'Animal Rights' candidates, a barrister, has been a friend of mine for 40 years, but I didn't realise that he was standing for office until just before the election. Greens were about 13% in Macquarie, 3rd behind the major parties, and I think that a good showing by minor parties makes the 'big party' candidates more inclined to listen to the voters.

^^ Yeah I agree, shorter but more precise/specific yet politely (not rant type) delivered concerns would be the best approach.

I've got a bit of time today, I'll knock something up with directions as to emailing and people can either copy it direct or use it as a template and add their own comments.

Suggestions? l already emailed and wrote to most of them over the past year, none of the liberals like Tudge and porter even answered back, l guess their secretaries throw all the negative letters in the bin and delete the emails, but Jenny Macklin was quite good and answered by emails a couple of times. l posted stuff on Tudge and Porters facebook page but they often delete and ban people who criticise them and they did that to me. l would'nt bother writing to Hanson l doubt she can read or if you do be careful not to use big words.

I think its wise to avoid insulting the politicians here and keep it policy based tbh. We want to address our concerns civilly with the key crossbenchers and yes she is one of them. I may not be her fan either but I have to keep an open mind.

How's this for a starter?
Dear....
I think I speak on behalf of most of the 800,000 Disability Support Pensioners and the thousands who were refused the pension since 2013 when I say that if your staff are working on the reasons for the swing against the major parties in this election then they may need to look at the number of votes we represent.
With reassessments looming for many more they look at a lifetime on NewStart in the clutches of the Job Centres who have no interest in finding jobs that are not there. There are few jobs for well people, the disabled have no chance.
Instead of grandstanding about savings, budget repair and the unsustainability of the DSP you need to offer real alternatives to people you refuse the pension to or have thrown off by reassessment procedures. I speak to both parties here.
Feel free to ignore this letter, if another election is held I suspect that you will not pick up one extra vote from us unless we see some real compassion for people in our position. Maybe then we will have your attention.

Really good. A nice one to go with plus with each individual that can add a paragraph of any other individual concerns to it.

Just spent half an hour emailing the various head honchos (going through the APH contact list - wish I'd copied the addresses down for everyone but it only dawned on me just now), Wyatt Roy (just cos he's my departing member) and Susan Lamb (incoming member). Couldn't find an email for Turnbull so if anyone finds it could they please post it here? I did go to his page and the email for his campaign staff is: campaign@liberal.org.au Shorten's email is bill.shorten.mp@aph.gov.au You can flick Abbott a message via this portal, although it doesn't seem to be working right now: tonyabbott.com.au/contact/
