What are the best countries to live in while on the pension.
I want to apply to go live overseas while getting pension.
Any recommendations.

If you have portability of the DSP I'd suggest a few trips away to see what you like.

If I were you I'd try Asia first there are many countries where the cost of living will make your pension go further. Be prepared for a culture shock . Not sure if you would like to try Europe the cost of living is more expensive there , on the upside Australia has agreements with most of the EEC . If I were you I'd heed what Banjo said.... I meet people in the Philippines who say they wish they moved to Thailand. I previously met ex pats in Thailand who were taking trips to the Philippines for a break. Cambodia has become more popular recently. Pick an area and do some research and perhaps visit there. Avoid big cities because the cost of living will kill you. Laoag City or Vigan City Nth Philippines is my personal recommendation. But do some research first. Avoid Metro Manila or Cebu both overcrowded highly polluted and with a high cost of living index. |

Check rents there, that's what matters when you decide where you can afford to live.

Philippines and Thailand are great for cheap rents but have yet to look at Vietnam or Cambodia.

Been reading Italy, Greece, and Spain are very popular The Greek Islands are like a ghost town about 7-8 months a year. Spain has so many Brits there's a Fish and Chip shop on every corner and 4-5 pubs on the block. About 30 years ago it was a haven but you might have to look a bit closer. Italy. Not sure. But they have had a massive refugee crisis going on for years. And it has recently become worse. Flights in and out of all of the above are not cheap. I doubt if you could live there on DSP alone. Vietnam and Cambodia are worth considering. English is widely spoken in the Philippines which might be helpful. |

It would not hurt you to do 6 months in the Philippines. Food and rent would be within your pension. Luxuries like nights out would be limited but occasional. Your supplements would stop or be reduced after 6 weeks so you could go back after 6 months if you have not decided. Try Cambodia if you like. It takes a bit to get up and get going. So if you like post up something and see which guys might like to meet you. Depends of course where you are headed. |

Hi mate I tend to disagree with you , I live here now and had been coming over for about 6 years prior , during which period my stepdaughter had dengue fever and received excellent care . Recently we had a baby daughter , both mum and baby are in very good health TG ...
It may not be of western standard but you are taken well care of .. My only advice in that regard is that you need to factor in a good health care policy , as there is no free healthcare in the Philippines .

G'day mmett. There are two levels of portability for DSP. The first is the 28 days per year that everyone on DSP is entitled too. There is also an option of extending the 28 days another 13 weeks if it is approved. The second is unlimited or indefinite portability, UP/IP which requires an application and review. The review is to determine whether or not you have no future work capacity, (NFWC) for the next five years and are severely or terminally disabled. This review is taken under the current rules with the possibility of losing DSP if unsuccessful.
