G'day Denis
Haven't found any specific information regarding how much! Though these will give you food for thought as to what defines a principal carer and dependent child.
The third link provides a reference in regard to receiving DSP with caring responsibilities. It seems quite difficult to pin them down on an exact figure. Maybe a call to CIS will do the trick.
I also think it could get messy with child support expectations. Cheers bear

I am on dsp with 2 dependant children.
Your dsp will remain the same however if you are renting your rent assistance will be raised and paid with your family tax benefit a and b.
The rate of family tax benefit A is dependant on the age of the Child.
The Schoolkids bonus has been scrapped and is no longer paid.
If you are separated you will have to lodge a child support claim.

Thank you immiadvice. I appreciate. My children were born and raised over 35 years ago so I have no idea how 'the system' works these days. Do you know how the child support claim affects the DSP?

One of our Adelaide members on the DSP pays child support but says it's voluntary. I don't think a court would order payments by people on low incomes.

Do you know how the child support claim affects the DSP? Child support is based on income and percentage of care of child(ren). It's complex.

My husband pays child support for his son and we have a dependent who is 9... while we dont currently receive a pension 'if' we do - most likely he will receive carers payment - his income is reduced by the amount of child support paid (even with a private agreement). But we pay more than would be required by CSA I receive FTB A & B for our dependent

I wasn't referring to the Child Support system as such as I am aware of it. What I was more trying to determine is this, 1 You are on a single rate of DSP; 2 Suddenly you are entrusted with the 100% full time care of a child under 16. I said stepchild but it could equally be a grandchild; so, and hence my question 3 What financial support, if any, could I expect to receive?

It's complex
A qualifying child for SIFS is a Family Tax Benefit child or a child who would be a Family Tax Benefit child except that the child (or someone on the child's behalf) is receiving an 'at home' rate of one of the following payments: ◾Disability Support Pension
So you would get your DSP, then there are requirements to determine how much you would get for the child.
There is a requirement to start proceedings to receive Child Support, with all of the attendant paper work, to help them work out how much is going to be paid by Centrelink.
This will depend on the amount of time the child is cared for by each parent e.g. 50%x50%, 60%x40% or 100% with only one of them.
Then their will be the amount of money paid by each parent according to the percentages of caring time to the amount of Child Support paid. Then the amount of Family Tax Benefits A&B will come into it. Then at school not at school, Primary, High, Public, Private, In Training...........It's *#^$%@! complex mate!
I'm going going away till Monday, when I get back, sometime next week when I'm bored shitless I'll call Centrelink and ask 'em.
How much extra money will I get for a Child under sixteen as I'm the only person available to care for him. Mum is an Asian National who will not be providing any child support and will not be getting any access rights.
I'll post the answer when I get it. Cheers bear
