I have just applied for the DSP this week and was told it would take 7-8 weeks to confirm. I have Bladder Cancer I've had one operation to remove 3 tumours and was told the next step was to remove the whole bladder. I couldn't apply until I had the correct paper work from the specialist. Does 7-8 weeks sound correct if anyone out there has any information for me and does anyone know what the payments are as I am in the dark about a lot of things concerning the DSP. Thanks.

moped Welcome to the forum. Each application is on a case by case basis so timelines are hard to pin down. If you are concerned they are giving you the run around you can contact Welfare Rights in you home state. Welcome, moped. Bear's post has covered it all. Please feel free to keep asking questions. We appreciate how foreign it all is when one first applies for DSP.

Welcome moped.
As bear said, The period of time is dependent on so many different things.
I will say tentatively that it will take Centrelink at least 7-8 weeks to let you know if you need an appointment for a JCA (job capacity assessment), GMD (Government Contracted Doctor) or more if they require more paperwork.
7-8 weeks would seem likely the amount of time it would take if it was a Manifest Grant only.
But, chin up, the forums are here and we will help if we can.

Hi Moped, A lot of the stress and tension is caused by time delays and inconsistency by CentreLink. Try and do it day by day, chat in the forums and listen to the gang, it will help you get through. The days will seem like weeks.......but you will get through this

Hi Moped... I have seen a few people get through their JCA and get an appt with the Govt doctor within 7-8 weeks but not many getting approved within that time. If you are not on any Centrelink payment/pension then you can request to be put on Newstart while your DSP is assessed.
I would also suggest contacting Welfare Rights and ensiring you understand the impairment tables.
Unforunately my DSP application has been going since March 2016 but I'm hopeful it will be resolved soon.
