i gather they all have transfers through a Chinese city. Amazing prices continue these days. Last week I paid 5,800 baht for a one way from K.L. to MEL. Stupid me forgot to check dates though because F1 is on at this time of year. So went to book a room and many places already full or prices up 75%. Sure enough date i arrived was start of it. So had to change flight. Now ends up costing me a total of 9,000 baht. And then i look to see you can now get same dates for 4,200 baht. Prices actually went down a week after i booked apart from the charges for a date change. But all still cheap compared to ten or even twenty years ago.

That's good news for the Cairns crew, they have connections to other Asian destinations as well. www.csair.com/au/en/

A mate and his missus just got back from China, pretty sure they flew China Southern out of Melbourne. $2000 return, accomodation, breakfast and tour everyday for the two of them for 2 weeks. It was hurried but they got around, seen a lot and thoroughly enjoyed it. Bargain!

I am pleased that there is so much information about the cheap flights. I am starting to gather information (I like to be prepared) about travelling overseas.
I have never been out of Australia, but have been wanting to travel to South East Asia for most of my adult life. I just need to find someone who will go with me (I am a chicken and probably a pain in the bum lol) and get myself a passport. Then of course I will need to decide exactly when and where I will be going.
I have my fingers crossed I will be able to follow through with my plans before the end of next year, I think the hardest part will be finding someone who will want to travel and stay with me. hehe

It's a good idea to go with a friend, you share your experiences then and two people are twice as brave as one! Most people book on the internet now, it can be a bit daunting for beginners but you canalways fall back on the old travel agent system. I used to always head for Chinatown, the agents there are used to doing good deals for other Asians and they have hands on experience with Asian travel.

I live approx four hours away from Chinatown so I think I will either use the internet or a travel agent. I will probably need someone to go with me so I can be brave, I get overwhelmed rather quickly, plus I will feel safer in a new place with a familiar face. Who knows, I might manage to talk my daughter into going with me (fingers crossed). She is reluctant to leave Australia, I am hanging to go. Until the time is right for me to travel, I will keep searching up as much information as I can.

22 years ago I was heading to safe Europe with no thought of Asia. Then a friend got a job in Thailand. So with much apprehension I decided to be daring and visit him for a few weeks on my way through. (sci fi stuff to think i would end up here permanently). Landed first up in K.L. alone nervous as a kitten as they say. But many years prior a young girl I knew went all over the world and came back saying S.E. Asia was the safest part. How right she was So within a few weeks i would be in the UK. Well 18 months later I got to London and became disabled in England, had a failed relationship and on a recent visit was robbed. 22 years later (touch wood) have never had a moments worry in Asia. Other than the way they drive i should say. Take bloody care is the advice and a few prayers or Buddha amulets wont go astray either. I thought i would be lost and lonely on my own. But now apart from a few people i much prefer to travel alone. Very rare you are not with another traveler anyway. Last night i was having a beer in Chiang mai and a guy asked to join me. He was 76 from Malaysia. His travels to all parts of the world were amazing. Iran, Pakistan, Ethiopia just to name three. So bfbf as nike say. Just do it. You will never regret it. It's a fascinating and mostly friendly world we live in.

That is certainly how I am starting to think nomadic. The only people I know who will want to go with me have no money for the ticket or accommodations. I also think I may be in big trouble if I ask my daughter once more to come with me. Looks like I will have to toughen up and go alone on my big adventure.
