Why is it that there are so many assumptions made about people who receive DSP?
I've noticed on fb and general media so many comments and assumptions about why people 'shouldnt be allowed' to claim DSP...
All the way from how much savings they have, what car they drive, whether they can manage to work/study within the criteria, if they can afford a holiday etc etc
I don't really understand why people in general feel the need to comment - if someone has legitimately qualified for DSP then they meet the criteria!

It's all about peoples greed and their short term pleasure and their perfect little world of righteousness and programmed indoctrinated morality. it's all about money. Everyone's own little agenda of what they want out of everyone else. welfare bashers feels quite comfortable that they have the undeniable right to judge and stigmatize others sadly. Be a damn rude shock for them if they ever need assitance from welfare or to apply to the DSP when something changes dramatically in their lives. And generally keyboard worriers automatically think they are an expert on other peoples lives and predicaments and they think to incorrectly push their opinion on to others without having any clue to their name. Media and politicians plant the seed of poisonous brainwashing and its spreads and then the hate against welfare recipients and DSP claimers go into overdrive. People who are on welfare and DSP don't deserve slanderous slurs from the media and politicians and strangers that have no iota of an idea what that person or persons is going through. Shoe on the other foot when welfare bashers need to have any kind of welfare and they will learn a lesson on their own actions on treating people who are on welfare and DSP as less than human.

I get around it by avoiding reading them.
The comments contribute nothing, they are repetitive, ignorant and almost always meant to offend.
I'll admit that I enjoy deleting them when ever one (very rarely) bobs up here.

Yes indeed, unless they walk at least a mile in our shoes, who are they to judge? One simply can't judge a book merely by its cover, of what appears on the outside. Seems idiots like that, always need something to gossip about. It surely will be a rude shock & awakening to them, if they ever are in need themselves etc.

Lot of help from media driven propaganda and certain personalities in politics. The most common I see is bad back but a bad back can actually be legitimate reason to claim DSP. There are spinal based disabilities in case these sheep don't know when they make such gross and callous generalisations. DSP is hard to get onto contrary to myths spread and in fact its unfairly difficult to get onto for many who should be able to.
Then there are the media personalities who like ignorant fools assume all disabilities are visible to the naked eye. Plenty of invisible conditions are symptomatic enough for the DSP criteria.

what can i add to all the above? I don't use face book as a rule. It seems i'm lucky enough to be an idiot who can't use it apart from contact with a few friends. The politicians and the media is to blame for all the hatred/discrimination. Hitler and the Gestapo in the 1940's and Policians and Centrelink today. SAME SAME.

I stay in some groups because their 'purpose' is to provide info but it still stuns me how quick people jump on others.
Agonydan - I agree 100% about change of circumstances... I personally never imagined I wouldnt work till retiring and due to income would more than likely not be eligible for Aged Pension... but here I am, last thing I imagined for myself.
It just seems that all the energy goes into pulling people to bits and reinforcing the stereotype that unless you cant work at all (and have never been able to and therefore aquire any assets) you arent 'deserving' of dsp.

Yes, sadly tasjo, everybody including politicians say those who are vulnerable should get welfare while they have a knife behind their back waiting to stab all on welfare. They are two faced bigots who think it can never happen to them, like myself, when I was working 70 hours a week and fit and well. But i never ever demonized those on welfare. It seems to have started only in the last decade or two. No body bashed the poor/disabled/unemployed years ago. It's human nature to think "it can't happen to me" I'll work, become rich and retire on world cruises. I'd be a millionaire now and may have even been brain washed into thinking the same way although i doubt it as i was always a true socialist.
