If it was just one or two, that'd be one thing; but the numbers talked about really are astounding. So long as we are of Pension age the government couldn't care less. Cheers bear

You wouldn't believe it. Aussies prefer to live in places like Cambodia. NO WAY! Battambang before Brisbane? It seems many of us were way ahead of our time. As i have said many times. Even if i won $55 million in lotto like someone in Victoria did recently I would not return. On my recent return I noticed even more than usual the topic of conversation was about the weather. Doctors waiting room, coffee in bakery and most other places. Long discussions on it. Mostly moaning. Never in 20 years have i ever heard similar in Asia. Electricity off yesterday and not a word said about it. Just wait until it comes back on. No fan during hottest month of the year. Mai pen rai = no problem, is the quintessential Thai phrase on most things. Strange planet after all when the poorest are the happiest. So why not join em. Cheers, abnormally happy nomadic.

yeah bear, 20,000 in Chiang Mai alone as reported a while back. Now + 1 at least. All saving Australia money by getting dental, medical etc there. Mostly self funded also is my guess. A friend of mine in the south took his at 55, 9 years ago. And he was OK money wise in Oz even, just got sick of whingeing for the most part. Unlike myself with the TAB and sundried tomatoes he says he misses zero.

There is more and more Aussies coming to Thailand and Chaing Mai Not sure on the 20 000 Aussies Maybe 26 000 Total Expats from all over the world living in Chiang Mai Chiang Mai Immigration can only do so many Visa Extension per year So that would mean a lot of people getting visas else where outside of Thailand i dont see hundreds of Aussies when i see then at the local Expat Club or anywhere else IMGO

The 20,000 Aussie number was what the Australian ambassador quoted in the Bangkok post a while back. I would query it also. Yes denis it has gone from little traffic to much like Bangkok i notice when I visit. But still has a good vibe about it apart from that and while it's not for me I can see the attraction with medical, super markets, cinema, gyms etc etc that people want. Decent dentists and even Bicycle repairs. I have none of these things hence i must visit often.
