Lao, Myanmar, Vietnam are looking pretty good at this particular moment. I don't know if I would want to have to go to a hospital in Laos or Myanmar, but Vietnam could be alright. I am thinking of going there for a while. I just need to get U.P, or an exemption on compassionate grounds from the 28 day restriction on account of my Seasonal Depression. If I am really lucky I may get to spend next Winter there.

Gee a bit of a worry having all the 800,000 in a Thai account. Their greed defies belief as we can't even get the same (any) interest that locals get. Will be interesting in March on next one. May be more news by then though.

How about we get a group together and pool our money in our Thai accounts until we show them if anyone needs that. I could transfer enough if it came to the crunch but there is a real principle here of them trying to rob us. And i suspect Oz politicians are embarrassed from the refugees flowing out of Oz looking for a better life. Sounds like they are in cahoots to me.

Yes nomadic it would be good to know exactly what prompted this decision and who made it. Exactly what, has changed. Ok I believe we could go to our Missions and just write a Stat Dec without having to show anything. Some probably told porky pies, but for them to say they CAN'T provide Proof is just another lie. I for one am prepared to present documents to them for proof. Bank Statement, Centrelink Statement. Just when you think it safe to go back in the water. It beggars belief! Cheers bear

Same deal at Chiang mai Consulate; as expected! I will however call them when they reopen after their little holiday on 12 November. I'll be inquiring about JP Services, as this is sufficient on documents to obtain an O-A from the Embassy in Canberra. Hope from the wording a JP can witness documents, which are true and verifiable, and a totally different procedure to hoping someone's telling the truth on a Stat Dec. Cheers bear Notarial Services As of 7 January, the Embassy will no longer witness statutory declarations that declare income or bank balances for Thai Immigration purposes. australianconsulatechiangmai.com

Notarial Services available include:authentications apostilles certifying copies of original documents (I'm thinking original Centrelink Income Statements)witnessing of signatures on certain documents the taking of Australian Statutory declarations being made for use in Australia by an Australian entitythe administering of affidavits, oaths and affirmations thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/Notarial_Services.htmlI'm starting to think it's much ado about nothing. We're all well aware of the slogan by now, "Good guys in, Bad guys out."', and good on them for that. I have to do a change of address on 12 November, so will ask at Immigration and report back. Cheers bear

i'm good until March in Laos. Can't imagine problems BUT? ? Probably know more by then anyhow. Over the years it has seemed that some places are less strict on the rules than others anyhow. i was told years ago it was easier in Perth than Melbourne.

Yes bear i just had another think about it also. Maybe will only affect those who previously only showed the form from the embassy. Maybe we who show bank book, statements and clink letters will not be affected. But would like 100% clarification on it all non the less.

There have been a few reports already that officers in immigration know nothing about the embassy withdrawals and still 100 % need the letter. I doubt they will change their system just for 3 embassies when their are 70 in total. Interesting months ahead

OK .... just spoke to Australian Embassy in BKK. They said certification of a Centrelink Income Statement is within their remit and they are able to do that; so long as you can show the original letter on your myGov account. The only option with Centrelink documents is to print them out. The original stays on the site, and as there isn't an option to download, it's considered secure information.
I'll visit immigration in Chiang Mai before my flight, with a copy of the relevant documents, to see what their reaction is to combining savings here and certified income statement.
I've decided against my trip to Nan immigration at the moment because my next ninety days is due after I get back from Oz. As I'll be putting my address in Phrae on my entry card, i'll do that trip the day after I come back early next year. Cheers bear

On a facebook group of ex pats there is a Thai immigration guy who gives advice and when i posted that showing by Thai bank book was enough he said it shouldn't be and that i should have a letter from the bank also. As i have said before; it seems some con-gens give visa's easier than others. He may be quoting the official line but some ignore it. So it seems a mish mash of situations. TIT!. This is Thailand.
