'Right of abode' in UK This means that Australians born before January 1, 1983, to a British parent, probably still hold a 'right of abode' in the United Kingdom - which confers almost all the rights and privileges of a full British citizen.Any member of a Commonwealth nation, who holds the right of abode in the UK, is free to enter and exit the UK "without hindrance", as well as to work, study, apply for welfare, vote and stand for public office in the country. 7news.com.au/politics/federal-politics/is-australia-headed-for-another-citizenship-saga-c-208152.amp

yes, I have a pommie passport. But I thought you had to have paid some tax at least to get all the health care and other benefits. And I was once told that if you leave for another country on the pension that is fine but you never get any rises in it. Some in Sth Africa are still on the same 20 quid as when they went there decades ago. All this only hearsay though.

Just in case you didn't read the full article nomadic; it relates to sect.44 of the constitution and pollies possible ineligibility to stand for parliament. I mainly posted it to highlight the benefits; because if there's pollies involved they wouldn't be missing out. Cheers bear
