Ive been considering it I know ill be stuck their for a few months minimum, where will i stay, mum and dad dont want me there, as severely disabled would i be given immediate accommodation after the two weeks quarantine in the hotel or am i on the street. I cant stay in a dorm, im too sensetive a sleeper, the cheapest hotel room i found in brissy was 50 bucks about 10 years ago, wven caravan parks charge 40 bucks just to sleep on their land at lake ainsworrh in lennox head. I dont have my car anymore, cant sleep in that. But im in Cambodia and just arrived from Poipet to Siem Reap now and its a ghost town. Everythings shut down, maybe because its the middle of the day. But many restaurants have closed signs. I checked airasia, couldnt find any flights leaving cambodia to gold coast. I guess im writing because some friends are a bit worried, so just thought id vent on here. But im 39, i dont smoke, i try to do running or pushups, exercise. I dont know. Its a dillemma time of what to do for those on indefinite portability. I probably cant get back into thailand, they probably have flights to Aus. The only airasia ones leaving phnom penh were sold out. Just venting, share any thoughts if you wish, cheers Highlander

My advice is the stay where you are in Siem Reap. Plenty of cheap hostels there and I am sure somewhere along Pub Street will be open where you can pass some time. Most places (including Australia) have been hit harder by the virus than Cambodia.

highlander4000 I tend to agree with mulloway, firstly because how would you get out of Cambodia. As far as I'm aware all borders are closed. Domestic flights aren't even running here in Thailand.

I'm in the same boat highlander. Stuck on a beach in Thailand and can't go anywhere even if I wanted to and I don't. Will sit here for as long as needed. A$25.00 a night for a good air con room and even have BBC & CNN if i get bored wirh wi-fi. I imagine some great prices where you are with no body around. So sit back and enjoy. Less cases where we both are than in Oz is a bonus. One month or 2 years is beyond my control. So SMILE.

Just listening to ABC radio talking about 300 Australians who can't get out of Cambodia. Some who were on holidays. Through no fault of their own the ones interviewed said. Actually like here in Prachuap Khiri Khan, I think i could cope there especially if i could get to my fav place of Battambang. But Siem Reap or even Phnom Penh with it's daily happy hour would be fine for me. But my mate and I just got lucky to be trapped here in a coastal Thai town. Getting a bit bored is only complaint. So everybody needs to hang in there until it ends. And more likely that life will go back to normal faster for those on pensions with UP than everybody else who has lost jobs/money. Time will tell.

We are still getting residents of Australia arrive in the country...... all of them are escorted straight from the airports to hotels by police and are locked into hotel rooms to do a fourteen day intensive isolation..... all the people stuck in this situation are whining about the bad food or lack of food and the fact they are not allowed outside etc. Being charged $40 for loads of washing as they have not enough clothes for the whole two weeks, medication issues as there is no one to make sure all of this stuff is taken care of properly. You may wish to look further into the situation before returning as if you do not have enough clothes, medication, snacks, entertainment to last you the two weeks it may be very miserable. Also many real estate agencies have altered how their application process is taken care of so finding your own accommodation is not as simple or fast as it used to be. Many hotels are not excepting just anyone anymore as people are not supposed to be traveling. Think about where you will stay after your compulsory two week isolation locked up in a hotel room and organize this before your return if you do decide to return. We are also expecting a heap of flights filled with overseas residents who will be coming to work on farms to pick fruit and veg- so some are still allowed in. Borders in between states are all closed and only letting residents of the state in or those ok'ed for work travel.

I have kind of switched off from the news this week, just existing from day to day in my little box with the fan turned up high and lights down low. The weather is perfect outside but the streets are lonely.
Just noticed the Australian dollar picking up a bit against the U.S. dollar. Maybe in part due to Australia's somewhat-decent management of the Corona virus. The Trump administration has completely botched there attempt at containing the virus. When Trump asserted that Mike Pence was now their "China Corona Virus Tzar" I knew they weren't taking it seriously. America has always been among Australia's staunchest allies, and I trust Trump will lead the world in ensuring that China is held fully accountable for the major part they have played in all of this.
