I was told by a 40 year old DSP payment recipient back in the late 90s that on average every 10-12 years approximately there is some kind of financial/economic crisis that results in Australian pensioners getting a so called once off stimulus bonus payment of $1000.
When was this the case in the 1970s/1980s/1990s?
I only know of the $1200 in late 2008 and this years two $750
Anyone recall before those dates

No, not me. I've had a couple of $1000 disaster relief payments though; paid by whether or not your postcode was in the declared area. Cheers bear

Back in 2011 as you may recall Brisbane was hit by massive floods Toowoomba was also affected, maybe even the worst in living memory, I recall at the time there was a disaster relief payment of $1000 for people affected in certain postcodes.
I lived in Spring Hill 4000 at the time in a Boarding house and a lot of my mates thought they would be clever even though the area was relatively unaffected as anyone familiar with Spring Hill would realize... But being greedy as they were they applied for the relief and got it. Not long after Centrelink cottoned on to them and hauled them in over the coals to repay the money. Lucky for me I just happened to be in the Pines when disaster struck.
Brisbane was also hit in 1974...
Cheers Itsa
