Nurse administers one Covid vaccine in eight hours at Victorian hub as NSW ramps up rolloutNurse ‘furious’ over slow pace of Australia’s rollout says supply of doses is not the problem – people are not showing up to get themA nurse who administered just one vaccine in the course of an eight-hour shift at one of Victoria’s mass vaccination hubs says she is “furious” at the “snail’s pace” of the vaccine rollout. The nurse said working in Australia was a drastically different experience to places such as the UK and US, where people were streaming through vaccination centre doors. “During one eight-hour shift I gave just one vaccine, and I came out afterwards just fuming,” she told Guardian Australia. “It’s slow, it’s frustrating for the nurses, and it’s concerning that Australia seems to take this attitude of, ‘let’s just shut the borders for as long as possible’ while there is vaccine just sitting there.” The nurse, who did not want her name used as employees are not allowed to speak to the media, said supply at the vaccine centre was not an issue – “there’s plenty,” she said. But people were not coming, she said. It was so slow that anyone who walked in without an appointment could get vaccinated even if they were not strictly in an eligible category, she said. Meanwhile in other corners of the world Government and Local Health Authorities are telling all cohorts to sign up post haste for free vaccines; with selected cohorts then being told they cannot, when they turn up to register. Cheers bear

Open it to everyone who wants one then. Get buses and travel around and offer them in the suburban shopping centres and small towns to whoever turns up. What’s the fuss. I remember years ago the bus used to travel around the country offering TB X-rays and now the Breast Cancer mob use buses for checkups. Around where I live in NSW the big highway service station/MdDonalds complex offers covid checks for commercial truckies, give em a jab while you’re at it. How hard is this!!!!!
Problem is the doctors and nurses are being paid a good amount to administer these jabs. They don’t even let chemists do them and they are allowed to do flu jabs for the under 65’s.
I’ve had my jab and I honestly reckon every nurse at that jab specific clinic was well over 65 and out of retirement to do it. Get the chemist to do it. It’s just a jab.
I had the jab because I’m outa here ASAP and the jab will be compulsory to get on a flight I reckon
But as an aside I am in inner Sydney this week and it’s just like Normal, hardly any masks, all shops open, people everywhere, not one known community covid in the whole country - at the moment. Since it’s started I’ve only worn a mask when it’s been compulsory on public transport. Rural NSW is totally unaffected by covid which is very nice for me.
