Has anyone overseas thought about a sideline?
Not only to counter rising costs with inflation and the yoyo exchange rate but for something to do to keep the brain and body active?
Would love to hear ideas and be inspired by other pensioners overseas who have side hustles. Legal ones please.
Cheers

Is being allowed to work and earn money in the Pines a simple matter Jay? Eg:- In Thailand I could theoretically open a restaurant or bar requiring a substantial outlay of cash and bound by a plethora of regulations, not to mention the stress!!
Please do not try this in your location!! As a side hustle, since June 9th I could also purchase cannabis; preferably from one of the university growers, and sell it on a Facebook site for excellent returns. Financing that, with Thai friends running the sales site would work; be totally legal if a merchant's license (buying & selling) was obtained and be a much cheaper option than the above suggestions. Wait & see when I return. Cheers 🐻

I knew people in the PI and Thailand that used to buy ED drugs like Cialis and sell them overseas. Apparently they could be posted to Australia legally if the amount imported was 3 months supply or less at a time. I looked into it briefly here, I could purchase 90 pills for about $40 in Myanmar and easily get $10 a pill in Australia. Apparently there is still a considerable "under the counter" demand even though they are available by prescription.

When Covid stopped my nomadic ways I was bored until a pommie introduced me to a bookie online. In the 2 years since I invested 150 squid I am still to make another deposit and now have 2,000 in it. I have a small go daily on OZ races and trots as I have done since I was 14 apart from the previous 20 years here. Keeps the brain active is about all though. Not to be done by non-punters. Entertainment value for me though. Can watch some races live on the net even or trots on the radio. As for making a buck? Ask me the day before my time is up but after 55 years not yet. But I'll die trying.

A while back a lending company here who lends money to BPO employees was needing financers for their operations in Makati. Put forth a bit over a 1M Pesos, got it all back plus a decent amount of interest. I still keep in contact with their CEO she's good to me. And yes it is all legal and declared to Services Australia.
Cheers

Cryptocurrencies? Or has that horse bolted? The question Id like to know is if they are really genuine, promising to make people rich in a few months. A prominent one was Tesla fronted by Elon Musk if it was real or otherwise, I cant imagine him being involved in anything dodgy. The initial investment is around $300 Cheers Itsa

The scammmers use whosever image they choose; blatantly, including Thailand's Monarch!! When I almost fell for one I started putting them through a scam checker!! After half a dozen or so, haven't thought about it since....... Cheers 🐻 www.scamadviser.com/

I look at every Oz race result every day. I thought I knew every jockey but never heard of even one at Mt Isa today. So they must be cowboys at once-a-year meetings.

Cryptocurrencies? Or has that horse bolted? Pump and dumps continue to come and go. That is where the "quick and easy" money is. This is not something for the uninitiated. Regular forex trading is a better option, but I wouldn't expect to be making money in under a year. Not only is a lot of study and practise required, but there are psychological hurdles to overcome. You need to think of it like poker more so than a job. A game of percentages and edges. You will have wins and losses, but if you have an edge your equity curve will rise long term. If you do acquire the skills though, there are prop funds that will fund you to trade on a profit share basis, so your own capital is not required. This can be very rewarding, but certainly not easy. It should be noted that scammers/grifters abound in all corners of the trading industry, as you'd expect where there is money involved. If there is any interest I can point people in the right direction.
