My GP always fills out these forms every year but this year when he filled them out he said next time I need a psychiatrist to fill it out because of new regulations or something
I have to get my doctor to fill it out for my PTSD and depression
Now he has referred me to a psychiatrist I'm scared because they are always expensive and sometimes don't help My last psychiatrist refused to write any reports for centrelink and I spent over 1000 dollars there.

quantumranger ....... Whenever my GP has referred me to a specialist the consults have always been bulk billed.and free, here in Queensland. Maybe it's different in NSW; though I can't think why it would be. From your post it sounds as if legislation has changed and NSW Transport now require the form to be filled out by the doctor most relevant to people's disabilities, rather than just a GP; which makes good sense and will have to do with verifying future insurance claims by a relevant medical practitioner. I think a referral from your GP last time asking to have required reports written would have saved you a bundle. Always get a referral from the GP when you need to see a specialist people. Cheers 🐻

quantumranger just ring the office of the referral, identify yourself and ask if you will be charged for the consultation. If they say yes go back to the doctor and ask for another referral.

Problem is nearly every psychiatrist in NSW don't bulk bill anymore and is minimum 250 for an initial consultation

I've been referred to a Public Psychiatrist at a public hospital and paid nothing because that's how the public system works Australia wide, if you hold a Medicare card. No HCC required. Go Public! Cheers 🐻 If you want documentation from them, that's another issue.

I might see if a clinical psychologist would be acceptable to fill out the form

I might see if a clinical psychologist would be acceptable to fill out the form It may depend on the condition quantumranger - as with DSP there may be some conditions (such as bipolar, schizophrenia) that are appropriately diagnosed (and therefore 'signed off' by) by a psychiatrist if the rules have changed and it needs an 'appropriate specialist'.

Is there any way around this. Can I just ask Service NSW to allow a GP to sign off on it. Because I have had PTSD for 12 years and just now I have to do a Fitness to Drive as my GP cleared my back of issues but then ticked the box that I have PTSD. Although it doesn't effect my driving. I can't afford 900 dollars for a psychiatrist. I rang around and got told 900 for the form and 500 for each appointment

I have not personally used them but I am told by a few different sources that this online service is affordable and sometimes even free for health care card holders with a GP referral. psych2u.com.au/

Surely the GP who refers could liaise with them regarding signing off on a 'Fitness to Drive' form. Cheers 🐻
