I saw it first hand when I arrived in Sydney from overseas.
I was at the country train terminal at Central where the kiosks selling Coffee, pies etc wouldn’t take cash. Coming from the Philippines where this practice is common because the thieving mongrel employees can’t be trusted with money, it’s quite common to see a member of the family handing the cash.

Yes onemore , I too was surprised whilst there by the number of public places who wouldn't take cash. Use credit card to pay $ 2.00 for train or organise GoCard with card...... As an aside, I was a little rattled as my debit card wasn't with me, so I took Baht back to exchange not thinking about living the credit card life; well surprise surprise, banks no longer do money exchange. Was told on numerous occasions; "Only exchange booth is at international airport." Cheers 🐻

Different but similar - I tried to deposit cash into a branch in the uk whist there recently and that has already been stopped.
Even if the cash is withdrawn from their own cash point to be paid into an account at the branch you are in. For fraud control supposedly, but with no minimum limit that makes no sense.
