I got paid yesterday and my pay was up $25.84 from last fortnight. I live in Aus, pay rent and power so I get the allowances for those added to my pay obviously. Pretty sure with the price of electricity, gas, food and everything else steadily increasing that I am still not any better off with this latest increase but something is better than nothing. I am still very confused how there is no money in the budget to properly help those of us on pensions (and other welfare payments) live a half normal life by actually paying us enough to eat properly and stay warm etc but there is more than enough money to pay crappy shifty politicians 300K a year pensions for making a mess of everything they were responsible for while being paid ridiculous amounts while in power... mspurple , Even with allowances I'm not sure I could live/survive in Australia these days. Medical benefits are possibly the one area I might benefit but, touch wood, the Philippines is manageable even without medicare and PBS. All the best to you and others in Australia. It is a definite struggle, juggle and constant compromise! I am growing more and more of my own food (for me and my large parrots) and am hoping to afford to set up a cozy coop for chickens soon. To save we buy many veggies direct from farms (mum picks them up for me when she passes the stalls for work as I could not afford the petrol to regularly go anywhere) for good prices but the powers that be are also pushing really hard here to get rid of cash (of course the idiots think it is great buying stuff with their phones like wankers) so there will be less opportunities for those of us on low incomes to save by shopping direct from the farmers. I am hoping to have enough practice with growing, preserving and swapping various food stuff to at least make things a little less sour for me and my son.

mspurpleMore power to you and well done and I hope your harvests are always bountiful. I grew up in country SW NSW and preserving and bottling was part of growing up. Consider making sauce also... "MSPurples Wild Horse Sauce" would get attention at a market. Where I grew up was beside a 'sandy' type area and there were rabbits... heaps of rabbits... my Mother could cook rabbit better than 'The Kernel' could cook 'finger lickin chicken'... and rabbit skins for sale... Wouldn't take much to keep some rabbits as well as chooks. petkeen.com/flemish-giant-rabbits-for-sale-breeders-in-australia/

Yes mspurple, Just across The Murray River via Murrabit a tad. Always enjoyed going to The Murrabit Market back in the day... www.murrabit.com.au/market/LOL..."MSPurples Wild Horse Sauce" would do well and as for recipes... funny you should ask... My father came across this when I was a little 'tacker' and it became the main stay for all our home made sauce - Wild's Ezy-Sauce. I still remember the sauce we made as the best I have ever tasted. I checked the web and they are still on the go with heaps of recipe suggestions ezysaucecomau.wordpress.com/ and they should be able to tell you where you can buy it. Failing that contact your local CWA. One of my younger brother's found a recipe for 'Steak Sauce' which I think was in The Weekly Times Farmers Handbook. If its still in print. Cheers and Have Fun. NFA-Denis Unfortunately I have never liked the ezy-sauce so I am always on the lookout for recipes that do not use it as the base. Years ago I had a delicious tomato sauce recipe that did not use the ezy sauce but it must have been put in a safe place because I can't find it. Wild horse sauce sounds like it should give you a bit of kick in the pants... spicy tomato sauce lol

I grew tomatoes for years, I never made sauce but every year we had a green pickles and red chutney production line. Ezy-sauce was used and the recipes that came with it followed.

bear I cant open either of the links you shared for some reason. Maybe the newer ad blocker my son put on my laptop? We have a box of tomatoes that I will be making powdered tomato paste from later today, trying to get as close to the flavour of BBQ shapes as possible- the last batch was pretty close and very very yummy.

Both working fine for me mspurple . Perhaps another member can also test them to try and work out the glitch. Mouthwatering...... I can taste the BBQ Shapes from here. Now where is that post by Banjo, to order anything and get it sent to here?? Search:- CWA tomato sauce recipes; both should come up. Cheers 🐻

Cheers 🐻 bearthe links work for me but as you said mspurple, it may have something to do with the 'blocker' your son put on your computer... normally with a blocker you can allow websites that will be blocked. And mspurple I worked for some years at, then, MON Echuca where we made MON Sauce. Another company from Barooga, NSW bought the sauce business and operate as MON Natural Foods Pty Ltd - www.monfoods.com.au/And Ezy-Sauce is viniger (ascetic acid) and a few other spices. Nothing stopping you from making your own "MSPurple Wild Horse Sauce Mix" with whatever 'secret herbs and spices' you might combine. Another place for sauce recipes is the Australian Womens's Weekly! I liked this one though - Dad's Tomato Sauce www.bestrecipes.com.au/recipes/dads-tomato-sauce/fxsxokvt
