Hi I have some questions about portability especially with DSP
For people with approved DSP portability are they allowed to move between Australia and other country without restrictions? such as staying in Australia for 6 months and going overseas for the other 6 months.
Also, do you have to go overseas as soon as portability is approved or is it your choice as to when you want to use the portability?
Thanks

Thanks Hi ledge People with IP/UP of DSP can come and go whenever they please, where you may lose out is your payment will be reduced after you leave Australia and supplements will be less also. These are just a few of the basics, I'm sure a staff member will be along shortly and give you a more detailed explanation of your entitlements... Cheers Itsa

As itsmylife08 advised...... If you have unlimited / indefinite portability of your DSP you can come and go at will; though it may be prudent to advise Centrelink if it's a new decision so as not to inadvertently be cut off overseas. You can advise of your travel on myGov or by calling Centrelink International Services on 1316 73 from Australia or on +61 3 6222 3455 from overseas. There are also freecall numbers from some countries. Leaving temporarily you will be paid your full rate for the first six weeks away; then it will reduce to the basic overseas rate which is $1030.00 p/f. After 26 weeks away your payment may be further reduced depending on your Australian Working Life Residency which is 35 year from the age of 16 to aged pension age. A pro rata payment will apply if you don't meet this criteria. If you advise you are leaving permanently you will be paid overseas rate upon departure. There is no requirement to ever use you unlimited / indefinite portability if you so choose. Here's a link to a thread that may answer any other questions you may have.
