Hi, I made a request for my Centrelink documents related to the granting of my DSP payment following a template that Bear posted.
I wanted to find out in particular my job capacity assessment and impairment tables as I want to apply for Unlimited Portability.
I found out that I have a work capacity of 0-7hrs a week “baseline and with intervention”.
But they won’t send any medical assessments or reports completed by Centrelink, stating:
“ Based on the contents of the documents, the authors' comments, and comments made by the Agency's Assessment Services Branch, I am of the opinion the documents contain sensitive information the disclosure of which might be detrimental to your physical or mental health or well-being. Conclusion Based on my findings above, I have decided it is appropriate the documents be released to a person nominated by you who is suitably qualified to explain the terms and meaning of the information contained in the documents. The nominated person should be a General Practitioner, Psychologist or Psychiatrist.”
Has this happened to anyone else?

Get it released to your psych, who will in turn release it to you. This is quite common with requests that relate a mental illness.

It has happened to me also fyfan when I was after some FOI information once. It wasn't a big deal for me and I'm pretty sure that withholding it is more about them making sure that you'll be okay when you gain the information and protecting themselves re privacy.

Was also parts on my file that I could not see but I do not recall there being anything telling me to have someone else like a medical professional to be my nominated person to release my file to- my nominated person was a family member. I do recall there being something stating the redacted parts were hidden to protect me from my own info or words used by staff while talking to me etc.
I would love to know what they have blacked out as many of the people I got to deal with before being granted DSP really were not pleasant to deal with and none of the info provided by me, my family or any of my specialists and drs was blacked out- only info, replies or input from centrelink staff was blacked out- so my guess is that it was their uneducated and unqualified opinions or comments about the situations being discussed that was blacked out due to them being either rude or not actually in a position to disagree with specialists.

That's interesting mspurple ; in another lifetime and in your shoes I think I'd be tempted to cause a ruckus over that. It's tantamount to saying that they messed up and if they hide what they said then you'd have a heck of a time making a CCDA claim if you chose to, because they're hiding the evidence. The sad part is that they really can do as they like, and that is the truth.
Cheers Itsa 🙂

Yeah it’s bizarre that not only are they blocking out the medical reports they (Centrelink) generated, they also won’t release to me all the medical information I compiled for my application and have copies of already.

All correct fyfan , except for the times Centrelink asks for direct access to our medical professionals to clarify matters in the closing stages of processing an application. I don't know if that happened to you, but for those it did happen to, I suspect a collaboration between the two, that we aren't allowed access to all of the information; for the reasons being mentioned. Triggering, loss of self-esteem, loss of trust in your medical professionals etc. The thing to remember in cases such as this is that permission was given, so, there was no breach of professional ethics; especially if payment was granted. Cheers 🐻
