They say that a couple can live cheaper than 2 singles, one house, one car, buy 2 specials at Coles (I hate them). I think under normal circumstances they can. I must admit I had a quiet chuckle when the gays campaigned long and hard for Centrelink to acknowledge their relationships only to find that Centrelink made a killing on the couples allowance savings.

one house, one car, buy 2 specials at Coles House ? Who can afford a house ? Yes, what Banjo says is correct. They say that you can economize, by paying less for rent, car, food etc. However I'd REALLY like to see some examples and a DETAILED explanation. The whole thing is a really sore point for me at the moment. I doubt they can provide details though. I'm starting to think that they're a really disorganized department. In one way highly structured and organized, but in other ways, the left hand has NO IDEA what the right is doing. Probably some dim-witted economist / desk jockey employed by them once came up with an equation about this which is quite disconnected from reality. Here is _MY_ question : If they give us less because we can economize as a couple, why not give us less when we economize by sharing housing with other people, as many of are forced to do by our economic circumstances ?? I'm not trying to give them ideas.....just pointing out the ridiculousness of the situation. Many of us are already forced to economize by sharing. Why penalize us when we happen to celebrate our love for one another by formally getting married ?
