I went in for my free hearing test today, a lengthy and complex procedure. I signed the bill that the government will pick up and we went through the test results. My hearing loss had doubled since my previous test 18 years ago and was considered severe.
Then the sales pitch started, the promised "free" hearing aid wasn't actually any good. But.... oh frabjous day... the $1400 it was valued at could be put towards a decent bit of kit. The most decent was around $20K. So after two trips in there at the taxpayers expense I was never going to get a hearing aid that would actually be of any major benefit to me without laying out some serious personal dollars.
So what I thought I would do is write to Treasurer Swan or Prime Minister Gillard and suggest they just send me the 1400 bucks and when my friends and family get pissed off with me constantly asking them to repeat themselves.... I could buy them a drink.
Any better suggestions?

Forgive my lack of humour here but I can't believe that they had me in, I actually thought that I might be going along with this shit to my advantage instead of getting scammed by companies making money out of people's disability. And yeah, it's another "funny"disability...
"I'm suffering from hearing loss" "what?" I'm suffering from ..... yeah, yeah, very funny...."
I've got a couple of them.

So what this company is saying is " The item we sell for $1,400. is useless" but that's OK as the Australian Government and the tax payers are paying for it. There is far too much of this going on and it should be brought to the attention of The Government Ministers, shadow Ministers and the Ombudsman. I hope this makes "google alerts"

yep i got to admit an hearing aid that filters out the bullshit an lies would be a big hit with welfare recipients!!!but it would probably come with certain rules like "not to be used when dealing with government departments!!" lol

and yet another scam for pensioners. Computers. Deducted from your fortnightly payments. I had a look at the centrelink site advertising the computers. Finding out the model, ram ang gigabytee things I then started browsing Ebay to find out that the same model can be purchased for $379. So why is Centrelink behind this scheme knowing a deduction of $100 plus from a monthly pension will bring a lot of hardship to people.

For just $330 WorkVentures can provide:
a complete desktop system (minimum specification Pentium 4 2.8 GHz, 40 GB hard drive and 1 GB RAM) Microsoft Windows XP Pro and Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Outlook) antivirus software a set-up and user guide 6 months warranty and free phone technical support home delivery to anywhere in Australia.
Doesn't sound very exciting does it? Better to just borrow the money off of C'link and buy what you like.

They are selling off their old computers to us, when they upgrade. Which is why only old dinosaur ones are available. Anything good which was replaced, would have been taken home by one of the staff members. We are only offered the crap to buy. A person who owned a computer that old and outdated, would throw it out and onto the pavement for council clean-up, knowing that it was virtually valueless. Actually, I can see that it is a little bit more powerful than the one I use. I bought mine at a garage sale for $30, nearly 5 years ago, complete with a set of shit hot speakers and a whole heap of music on it.

Anything decent?
I was wondering if Centrelink would sell you an old PC on credit if you already had a debt. Also wonder if they have the original HDD, a techie might be able get some interesting data off them. I have a shonky mate who smashes his with a big hammer and then burns them before he considers them "fully deleted".
