A CORIO woman, who punched a Jigsaw worker in the head over a Centrelink issue, has been ordered to undergo assessment and treatment for psychiatric problems.
Kylie Robertson, 21, of Matthews Rd, Corio, pleaded guilty in Geelong Magistrates' Court yesterday to a charge of recklessly causing injury.
Police prosecutor Leading Senior Constable Kylie Jane said that, on March 15 this year, Robertson attended Jigsaw, Corio Village, to speak with a worker about her Centrelink payments.
"When told by the worker, that nothing could be done, Robertson became angry and punched the victim to the right side of her face," Sen-Constable Jane said.
"As a result the victim suffered bruising and swelling to her eye and cheek."
The prosecutor told the court Robertson left Jigsaw but remained within the precincts of Corio Village where she was later arrested by police.
"When interviewed she was abusive, insulting and unco-operative," Sen-Constable Jane said.
Adrian Paull, for Robertson, said his client had ongoing mental health issues and had spent some time in the Swanston Centre in the lead-up to the assault.
Mr Paull said Robertson was on a range of medication, had limited priors and been banned from Corio Village for two years following the incident.
He asked the court to consider placing his client on an adjourned undertaking but Magistrate Michael Coghlan disagreed.
"She struck the victim because she couldn't get what she wanted," Mr Coghlan said.
"This (the victim) is a woman employed to assist the community and she is punched in the head by your client because she couldn't get her own way."
Robertson was convicted and placed on a 12-month Community Corrections Order with conditions which include undergoing assessment and treatment for psychiatric issues.
