A Tasmanian woman has been sentenced to 18 months jail for fraudulently claiming more than $114,000 in Centrelink payments. The Supreme Court in Hobart heard Joyce Ellen Leary, 65, told Centrelink she was separated from her husband so his income and assets would not affect her payments. Leary was paid $114,000 more than she was entitled to between 1994 and 2010. Her diaries and biography were used to prove she was living with her husband the entire time. Justice Alan Blow sentenced Leary to 18 months jail and ordered she be released after 10 months and placed on a three-year good behaviour bond. Leary told the court she was now separated from her husband and planned to use money from the sale of one of their properties to repay Centrelink. www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-02/grandmother-jailed-for-fraud/4048574?section=tas
