Does anyone know if and by how much the age-pension reduces after 13 weeks out of Australia....the centrelink website says that the pension rate MAY be reduced between 13 and 26 weeks absence.

It should be 26 weeks when you lose the pensioner supplement, about $60 a fortnight.
Next year it will be also reduced if you have spent less the 35 years of your working life in Australia. I'm not real clever on this myself so hopefully someone else will come along and inform you. If not I'll look it up.

Thanks Banjo
I am thinking of spending 6 months of next year with a friend in Thailand, losing only the pension supplement isn't too bad...do you know if I would get the supplement for the first 13 weeks before I lose it ? I have been an Australian resident for over 40 years ( I am now 67) so,unless the rules change, I should not be further penalised.

I can't see why you wouldn't be paid for 26 weeks so if you're back in 6 months there's no loss at all. If I decide to move overseas after I turn 65 I'll probably come back every 6 months anyway I'll be missing airline food that much...

Thanks Banjo and Peter,
I am new to this forum and I find it enlightening and uplifting for us 'welfare slaves'.... to be able to ask for and share advice, it is something I have not found anywhere previously. ;D
Just a mild criticism of the layout of the forum...I found it difficult to find the thread that I had originally posted in as there are a few OAP threads, I'm no expert but maybe less general threads and more specific threads would help us navigate the website.
Nontheless, it is still the best website I have found for us OAPs. Congratulations and keep up the good work...we need all the help we can get!

It's a problem with forums, we tried to get organised categories originally but because we don't run the show with a rod of iron the threads tend to drift off topic. The best way to find your old posts is to go to your profile.. click on your name, and you will see your posts listed there, just click on the title and you will be taken to the thread.

I used to be on a social club committee.
The meetings would start all in good order with topics to be covered listed one by one. Things would go well for the first few items, until someone would say, "time for a drink", then a bit of a dispute would take place as to whether the meeting should finish first or whether the drinks should arrive before the end.
The pro drink group always won, on the grounds that the meeting could be ongoing whilst the drinks were on going and that they deserved a drink for doing their voluntary duty. After that it was all downhill with the last few items stretching on and on with more and more people putting in a disputatious opinion. If anything was too divisive or complicated it got rescheduled for the next meeting.
This site might also meander, but at least no topic is left undressed and many of these topics are overtaken by changing circumstances

Indeed, in a perfect world we would go back and delete all out of date information. I suppose it's another thing I could put banker in charge of. The FAQ section is something that really needs some serious work as well.
