Australia will give $7.5 million to projects that improve the rights of people with disabilities in developing countries. Of this, $4.5 million will be given to the Pacific Disability Forum, Foreign Minister Bob Carr said on Wednesday. The forum is the regional umbrella network of disabled persons' organisations and helps bring people with disabilities together so they have a stronger voice in underlining their rights to governments. "(The forum) provides leadership training for men and women with disability to lead social change in their countries." It also increases community awareness and recognition of the needs and aspirations of Pacific people with disability. Another $3 million will be given to the Disability Rights Fund between now and 2014. news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-news-national/australia-funds-disabled-rights-projects-20120613-208ok.html

Hilarious. Give away $7 million of tax payers money to disabled people in other countries, while at the same time taking away the DSP from Australians who paid tax to have it available to people in our country.
That's ontop of the $5 million we gave to England to put on the Queens jubilee celebrations.
Yet we all better tighten our belts further, go without our heaters, and pay the carbon tax.

I saw an article a few months ago, about the lifesaving clubs of Australia, taking away their sandbuggy wheelchairs, which used to be available for use by the disabled at our beaches.
Seems the cost of insurance against a law suit from anyone being injured in one, far outweighs the pleasure that the disabled were having at the beach.
Make our lives better Mr Carr, before you run off around the world helping out their disabled. I guess he will be allowed to leave the country, to hand out the cheques.

Anyone who begrudges the 30 cents it's cost them (work it out) to fund a few wheelchairs for people who would otherwise be living on the ground in Cambodia and Indonesia send me a PM and I'll post it to you.

Good point, Banjo. I've seen physically disabled people in Asia and they have a tough life. I almost always pass on some money to them, if I can tell they're genuine. However the extreme irony of the situation remains.

you can tell who's genuine by counting the limbs, unfortunately direct donations to crippled beggars don't always end up in their pocket.

Banker, If I may make a suggestion, please. Can you set up a spot on the .org site where we can start putting together some of this information that will result in a "template" that everyone can use.
And I would suggest that the first quote for the template should be the words of Carr where he says,
"People with a disability are often made to feel invisible and shut out of community life," Senator Carr said in a statement.
thnx

and Banker, I mean a word template document whereby we can all use whatever bits and pieces that are pertinent to us, delete what does not apply, and start quoting their own SSact and Guidelines to them.
And I have read the Guidelines and they give us the ability to answer them back with case notes, legal determinations, references to case law....the whole shooting match, so to speak.
And if the Guidelines are not accepted then they should be deleted from the web.
I have downloaded the current revision however.
PM me as required.
trust you and yours are well
