I have just spoken to a lady from the new CentreLink (Dept Human Resources), International Services Section, in Hobart! I have requested foe portability forms to be sent to me, and only after she implied that there was no such entitlement; "Oh yes, there is portability but with conditions of reassessment!" her then belated response..
The first thing she told me was, that as of 1st January 2013, all DSP portability is reduced to only six weeks in total! Now here's the clincher about a persons reassessment..
Once the forms are signed, sealed and delivered, and after your new sit down face to face re-evaluation; if for any reason they see you as unsuitable to continue obtaining the DSP, then you will be told that you must re-enter the workforce? A veiled threat that we all should be aware of...
After having perused my litany of physical/mental endorsements; she then softened to add.. "But I dont believe this should hinder your approach for portability, Sir!". From condecension at the opening of our dialogue, to some form of servility and a lesser contempt, was how I felt our time spent had evolved? Yet again; maybe her obvious indignace had found a rare form of pity, for those such as troubled as we? Her name was 'Julia', as emphasised, and certainly not Julie: so good luck if you happen to converse with Miss Julia!
Little do they realise that even with our many afflictions and ailments; all people that receive the DSP, only do so out of necessity and not as a get rich quick scheme! Though I may talk slow from acquired brain injury, which in turn aggravated a profound mental disorder; or that my body is still suffers severe pain after 12 yrs; I still believe that my much humbled intelligence and life, still deserve respect from these bureaucratic serfs!!!
As a footnote, allow me to say: Power to the people who deserrve such a simple thing as Dignity, and the right of self expression and formulation.. We as disabled may suffer many of lifes' indignities, but remember one thing; the meek shall inherit the earth and there are no bureaucrats in heaven? Good Luck and stay tuned for my next adventure into the Twilight Zone...
PS... CentreLink- International Services Section= phone# 131673: and please say hello to Miss Julia for me; LoL:))
