just a thought,if your girl has a baby in another country other than australia ,and you are in australia can you get the baby bonus.

Good reminder. I also seem to recall that even if you're both overseas, you get it at a lesser rate. However I don't know what the situation is in the event of people not being legally married. Worth Googling for our forum member Chrisnouy.

You can claim the baby bonus for a child born overseas provided you meet the criteria for payment of FTB A.
Basically the child must be an Australian and you[/u] must have been in Australia for a continuous period of 13 weeks in the 3 year period before the baby was born. The mother must also have a tax file number from the ATO but this is a simple form.

yes what i mean is lets say she is japanese you are australian ,she gets pregnant you go back to australia and she has the baby there while you are in australia if i clame to be the father of a baby born overseas can i claim the baby bonus.

Yes, you will get the bonus. As stated though you must get the baby citizenship, the mother must have a TFN from the ATO and you must meet the Australian residence requirement which is 13 weeks in the past 3 years.
If all of that is fine then you will get the full amount of the baby bonus.
