One concern I have had about Air Asia is about laptop computers as carry-on luggage as well as the usual rucksack.
I have flown Tiger, Malaysian and Jetstar over the past three years, and they are fine with my little laptop bag, and don't weigh it either.
Would anyone who has flown Air Asia before have boarded with a laptop in a bag? Is their policy the same as the abovementioned airlines?
Anyway, time for some HBO and I will check on this thread again tomorrow, goodnight and good dreams.

I've flown regularly with them and never had any carry on bags weighed, it used to be that all the heavy stuff went into those bags. It may have changed, I've not flown with them since they switched to Don Maung.

Flown with Air Asia many times. Never had a problem about my laptop bag. I have other complaints about them though. They are a discount air line and if your real lucky you might get what you pay for.

Every time Air Asia have advertised a cheap flight to Indonesia, they have been very expensive on the return flight. So much so, they have been just as expensive as direct flights, but taking more than twice the time to get there.

Air Asia's website offers "promotion" flights when you book, the fares even for the same day can be very different... as with all budget airlines you have to be flexible with your travel times and the further ahead you book the better the chances are of getting a cheap flight.
As someone who regularly turns up for flights at the wrong time, and even on memorable occasions, the wrong day, I'd hate to think what would happen if I booked 6 months ahead.

If I paid you what you were worth you'd owe me thousands.

I returned from Thailand recently and carried a laptop in bag. No problemo. However they wanted to charge me $100 extra because I booked 20kg checked baggage and actually brought 26kg. I went away and took the stuffing out of my large pillow (which I knew was allowed on for free) , and filled it with 6kg of clothes and stuff. There was only a thin covering of pillow stuff surrounding all my things. I weighed my bag at another airlines counter and finally checked in a bag weighing 20.4 kg. My carry-on bag was full of books and weighed a lot more than the 7 kg they allow. I waltzed on with my "pillow" under my arm and a very heavy (but small) cabin bag. They laughed at customs in Oz when I arrived and x-rayed my pillow.

Sometimes you have to be inventive on how to get around this stupid weight allowance. Good one. I have a special jacket I bought in August two years ago, and I can fit the dictionary in one of its pockets, but not the Bible. I can get all the camera and nicad batteries and the torch and heavy stuff in the pockets of the jacket, and wear the jacket at checkin, because they don't weigh passengers. Just make sure to have some room in your rucksack so that you can store that jacket as soon as you get past checkin, because Changi Airport is not the kind of chilly place to wear a jacket. Also, wear the jeans over the pants, two pairs of socks and jocks, two shirts, and fill up your pockets with heavy stuff. Airlines are stupid, and don't forget that,
