Hi all, searched around and could not find the answer. When you come back home to Oz from overseas,do you still have to ring Centrelink and report your back?
Not sure where i got the idea that you now dont have to ring when you depart or arrive back.
Is this right? Thanks in advance.

Its best to call them & report back and get a receipt number for your call.

I'm always told to report back when I tell them I'm leaving. Others don't seem to bother and get away with it.

It's compulsory to report if you're going O/S. If you don't, you don't have a leg to stand on if they decide to make life difficult for you. CL International phone wait times are less than for the DSP number.

you have to notify them..I didn't for a few years...after I did they cut me off....even though I was always in the 13 week period...too many times they reckoned..they can just make their own decisions and that's it..all over..

It is all on their computer now, all your Federal files, in real time. If you have one of the new electronic-passports (no queue) all you have to do before you head off is phone CL international and tell them the outgoing and incoming dates. The machine confirms this at the airport. The Customs computer is linked directly in real time to the CL system: but I guess if you are concerned that the Customs Clerk might not log in your return properly or whatever, then you might want to phone in upon your return.

I was told last time I notified them about O/S travel I didnt need to report my return. I returned on the weekend & called them this week, the guy confirmed I didnt have to report my return just Departure, but he added if it makes you happy to call thats up to you, but not needed.

I now know that it is a legal obligation to notify departure and return.
If nothing else it comes under the Change in Circumstances requirements.
Not doing so exposes you to potential cancellation of your DSP and hence a complete new application.
Just saying!

Thanks and i agree, when i rang C/L to tell of my return, and if i needed too. The young bloke i spoke to said no need. I think i will err on the side of caution on reporting in and out. From my understanding now, thanks to the board, the representative from Centrelink that gives you advice on your questions may well ,,be not exactly right. And could land you in alot of doogy poo,if you take the advice given Regards

Probably mean a big crack down on arrivals as the others try to show how straight they are. I'll look forward to it, Adelaide's bad enough anyway.
