Just spent a few days in Chiang Mai, Thailand and stayed at the Night Bazaar Inn. This was a true hotel rather than the guest houses that usually attract pensioners but at 600 baht ($20) a night it was a real bargain. About as centrally located as it gets, a pleasant first floor coffee shop had a balcony overlooking the Night Bazaar with great people watching opportunities.

It's ok for me for a few days, then it gets too busy. I like the smaller cities of Thailand and quite fancy some of the provincial towns and cities of the Philippines. Dumaguete springs to mind.
Curse the day I showed Banker how to post photos... a man's good nature taken advantage of again.
Banjo jaideemakmak... som nam nar. ;D

I like Dumaguete.
One of the few places in the Philippines that you can get a 'proper' hamburger.

There were some nice places along the Esplanade, a very pleasant university town. Did they put tinned beetroot on the burger?

No mate.
I went to Dumaguete from Argao Cebu...crossed at the Southern end of Cebu Island on the ferry.
Tricicab into the city where I did my immigration stuff.
There is a lot of expats in Dumaguete.
Particularly mornings at McDonalds for coffee and smokes in the morning.
If I could I would holiday there for a long time...
