If anyone doubted that having a fixed income via a pension entitlement is hell on earth in Australia, read: www.smh.com.au/data-point/rising-price-of-living-in-australia-20130426-2ik16.htmlThe Commonwealth government then imprisons us to suffer these impossible prices, when we could live abroad and save them and us money, or at least make our dollar stretch (even Singapore's cost of living is half that of Australia's). Entitled to be gouged. Bring back the rack. They need to grandfather any DSPer over the age of 55 and offer them Unlimited Portability. This would at least free up onshore beds for the needy.

Nice Avatar BH... I agree, the cost of the system maintaining a 55+ DSP recipient in Australia should be compared to that of one living overseas.

I read a report a few months ago that stated Sydney was the 2nd most expensive city in the world and was 50% more expensive than New York.
My son was working in the States last year for 3 months and he keeps saying how cheap it is over there.
Perhaps I am better off staying in this rotten 3rd world country Thailand, than going back to the "LUCKY COUNTRY"

I'm doing OK and will probably continue to do so as long as I can keep dodging paying rent.... Are you still camped in the park are you?

Yes, rent can be a real hemorrhaging of funds, even with rent assistance. I once lived in my car for a few months.
