Hi I am a 33 year old and on the dsp. I must say this is one of the best board's on the web for getting information about centrelink and welfare rights around! Even if u don't want to travel long term o/s . I am on the dsp because I suffer from schizo-affective disorder ( it is like bi-polar and schizophrenia mixed together) I am stable at the moment and have a part time job doing pizza deliveries. I declare my income to centrelink. I really like the job but I want to know is if centrelink will use this part time work against me to kick me off the pension and on to newstart ( which we all know is living in poverty) I can't do ANY type of job full time. I got the dsp in 2007 so I was thinking it is better to just work 15 hours a week, no more cos I know they changed it to 30 hours aweek but I fear if I do more than 15 they might say I can work full time or being the prick's centrelink are they might say I can afford to live off the newstart like they did to the single parents. All I really wanna know if what are my chances of getting kicked off the dsp cos I work part time?
And for what it's worth I think if you qualify from DSP or old age pension u should be able to travel where and when ever u want!

Welcome to the forum boku, Thank you for the nice words about the forum, we do try to help pensioners.
To answer you question, this is just my opinion and I am sure others will come on and share their experience.
When dealing with Centrelink be prepared for anything, they do not follow the law they make up their own rules, they will say this is Centrelink policy BUT remember that their so called policy is not always law. One tactic they use if to try and bluff people. If you do get a problem with C/L one of the first places to get help is Welfare Rights.
I hope this helps.....Just be prepared for the unexpected.

I failed in getting in quick enough for the Dental Health Scheme old mate; but I truly wish I did have two teeth left and especially such prime examples

Hello, perhaps you should email or ring welfare rights with your question, from my experience the Victorian welfare rights has been really good with answering questions l had in the past. Maybe if your pension ever comes up for review they could use it against you that you have been working more then 15 hours, but l'm just guessing you should ask the experts, welfare rights

Hi Boku, I am currently working just under 30 hours a week and have not had a problem. Rules are rules. I also worked for 2 years (ending about 3 years ago) going just under the 30 hours. During this time I purposely went over the 30 hours for a few months and was suspended, but got back on again (no problem) when I reduced my hours. (I needed more money at that time and half-killed myself to make it). Just make 100% sure the 30 hour rule applies to you. It applies to me because I started on the DSP 13 years ago, but I think more recent recipients are classed under different rules for various things.

I only got the dsp in 2007 so the original 30 hour rule doesn't apply to me. But at july 2012 the labour gov said dsp people could work up to 30 hours a week. I check the dis table and I am either 30 or 40 points for my mental illness, but as I have read here centrelink change the rules when ever it suit's them
