Since Australian Government changes I have been coming to Thailand every 6 weeks as required. But, on this last advisory to CentreLink they told me I was to be 'Re-assessed for Unlimited Portability'. I did not apply for this change. I have now been back in Thailand for a week and they have since sent medical forms to my nominated address in Sydney. I suffer from major depression and heart problems. Have nowhere to go in Aus will likely fall back to a suicidal condition when I have to go back in August. I don't know what to do.

and call them and tell them you didnt apply for it and see what they say but if you think you can pass the requirments and the points threshold then go for it or it sounds like they are offering you unlimited portability but that seems strange

It sounds to me like the UP is being offered to regular travelers, I've heard of this before. I can't see the harm of going through with it, if you fail the assessment it puts you back where you were anyway and the advantages are plain to see if you pass.
The fear of being thrown off the DSP is still there but the score of 10/20 for the assessment still seems to be safe.

My biggest problem now is that I have spent near on 3 years in Thailand and have no specialist reports since then. This means I will have to spend some time in Aus'. I cannot afford to do it. Apart from that, everything I have is in Thailand. I honestly think I will quickly go into suicidal mode when I go back. Have nowhere to go.

Many thanks Banker. You're my only remaining contact. Have no one left in Aus' and my lady just left to look after a man in Bangkok hospital - dying but promised her "big money" !!!! Sorry I come over as a winger but feel that way at the moment. Not normally like this. Today is a beautiful day it could only get worse.

I have everything in Thailand but only my pension to live off and was able to find appropriate accommodation and dig in for 2 months at a time to organise specialists and c/l interviews. I know where you can stay for $150 a week on a 10 acre property on the Gold Coast and Air asia practically flies you to the door (pm me) Fred, lift your game and stick your chest out and hold your head up and regain your dignity, make a move and get your life on track :-)

Cant answer why they mentioned portability to you , other than what Banjo mentioned ie may as well go for it! When I applied for portability my last specialist report was in 2006,admittedly it was for spinal problems. I was approved. I used my 2006 specialist report. But updated XRAYs Also a mate of mine mentioned a chap we both know and suffers like you, depression, he applied for portability and was granted it last week. Ideally it would be good to get updated specialist reports for one or both of your ailments. Id suggest book to see a GP, and tell him whats going on. The GP may steer you in the right direction. Mine was very helpful. All the best mate, Cheers Ps when you apply for portability you don't have to hang around Australia waiting for their decision. You can ring them from o/S,or they told me if I gave them a overseas number they would ring me.

Many thanks all of you for your kind words. I am due back in Aus' 4th Aug - have to get my act together before then. That place on the Gold Coast sounds good, have to think about it next time. I think it would be too messy to change everything from Sydney at the moment - medical records etc. Thankyou again.
