I've been to Malaysia for week at a time (Penang and Kuala Lumpur) And I liked it a lot I went back a second time. I was thinking seeing as I am on the dsp of spending a month there over the aussie winter some time in the future. Has anyone spend a long time there? is there any affordable large rooms for rent in KL, Penang or Langkawi. I understand that alcohol is taxed a lot but I am the sort of person that can stop at one beer most of the time hehe. Is Malaysia too expensive for dsper's? I don't want to go to Thailand because of the redlight districts and gogo bars.(I would spend too much) any info would be helpful
I noticed for most of you dsper's u like bali, Thailand or phil. Has Anyone tried Malaysia long term?

Hi boku, there's some nice places in Thailand well away from the full on brothel and red light areas, but I agree that Malaysia is nice as well. I think the visa is easier for Australians both being Commonwealth countries which would make it attractive long term. Might be an idea to check the embassy website. I think it can be fairly cheap regarding accommodation, I went up the east coast a few years ago and don't recall paying too much in guest houses. I believe the Malay states in Borneo are cheaper as well.
