59 is far too young to consider marriage, talk to him in the severest possible terms Mogo.
Having 30 points doesn't mean a lot, he has to have 20 under ONE disability, a crook leg and a bad back rating 15 each, total 30, does not cut the mustard. If he applied for UP he would have to be reassessed.
Where is he living now? If he is under the 6 week rule he lives in Australia, nothing else possible and God help him if Centrelink think differently.

hi Banjo, we are at one on the marriage thing. I forgot about the one injury thing and 20 points. Moreover, the marriage thing is not helpful for him with benefits as I see it. An old bloke once told me in Phils over a beer and I quote 'dont admit to nothing' and it has stuck in my mind. It certainly won't apply to me, the marriage thing I mean. He has significant injuries, got run over by a bus as a kid. By the way, dont know whether you have any knowledge in this area, when he was in Aussie with his 'thai gf', a bus pulled out from the left and cleaned them up, she got pretty badly injured, broken collarbone, broken back etc. Immigration rejected her application for an extension to stay in Australia for medical treatment even with a specialist report (dont know what is going on in our country). She has to go back for assessment for CTP (third party injury) and I have told him to jump and and down, get letter from solicitor etc so she can stay and get all her medical reports done whch will take longer than 3 months. Of course I have told him not to mention the M word, just friends!!!
