Hi all I have been going through the threads and cant seem to find the answer I am looking for, I have thought about ringing c/l but the 45 minute wait on the phone is a killer(the music is worse) If I was to qualify for the indefinite port and go live in the Philippines do others that live there pay like 500 dollars every year to extend there visa? I am married to a Filipina and can stay for 1 year Also is there a certain amount of time you have to go back and stay in Australia or can I just stay there in the Philippines as long as I want and still keep my medicare, and if I wanted to fly to Darwin and get treated free if I was really sick ok thanks guys and sorry if this question been asked 100 times already cheers pedro

Medicare say that an absence of more than 5 years, or it was when I asked about 3 years ago, causes loss of residency and subsequence loss of benefits. This is reinstated when you return to Australia but you have to give them a reassurance you intend to remain in Australia.
To be honest I consider it another thing that will have to be worked out as we go along, the indefinite portability of the DSP is a new ball game, the rules still have to worked out.
I think that most people living in the Philippines as non-residents pay the visa costs you describe.

as for the visas if your there for a year solid just fly in and out to a close country with your wife. That way you can ask for a balakbayan stamp in your passport. its free and lasts 12 months, but you have to enter with your filippina wife..
