Hello everyone . Ist post here. My question is when living overseas from Australia, I want to know how to apply for the old age pension. I am 60 years old and just wanted to find out do I have to go back to Australia to live for a certain amount of time to get my pension before i turn the pension age. How long does this have to be ? Or can I go there 2 months before and apply even though I lived overseas for 9 years? I know this is a long time away , I just needed to know to make plans as when you do get older in your years time seems to go twice as quick
Thank you all

Welcome to the board miow40
Centrelink would almost certainly look upon you as a non-resident if you turned up 2 months before the pension age. this means you would still be entitled to the Age pension but it would not be portable for 2 years.
I honestly don't know how much time you would need to spend in Australia to qualify for portability, I suspect it would depend upon who you were talking to on the day.
This year we came up with a the idea that a returning OAP applicant arrive a year early and go on the NewStart. This, in theory, would make him a resident for pension purposes.
Another suggestion is that you wait till they knock you back and appeal this bullshit law through the courts.
