Assistance for victims of terrorism overseasA new payment will be available from 21 October to provide financial assistance to people affected by terrorism acts overseas. The Australian Victim of Terrorism Overseas Payment (AVTOP) applies to acts of terrorism that are declared by the Prime Minister. The AVTOP is a one-off payment of up to $75,000 to provide financial assistance for Australians who are harmed overseas as a direct result of terrorist acts. The payment is also available for close family members of a person who died as a direct result of the declared terrorist act. www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/news/assistance-for-victims-of-terrorism-overseasPayment rates for the Australian Victim of Terrorism Overseas Payment People may be able to get up to $75,000 depending on their circumstances. The principles issued under the legislation set out a sliding scale for payments to primary victims, with more serious injuries receiving a higher payment. Close family members may share a payment of up to $75,000.
