Yesterday I booked MEL to KL with airasia for may next year. I got the base fare for 319aud to KL....... is that a good fare? I remember I booked the same fair in 2010 for 196 aus base fair no luggage or food I can't remember if that included taxs. I checked out jetstar just now and I could have got it for 305aud but it would have cost 12.50 to book with card. So pretty much the same (jetstar was on sale, I'm not sure how much is usual cost) I prefer airasia cos it's only one flight to KL. Jetstar is via s'pore ( u all probly know this lol) Which do most of u guys prefer jetstar or airasia? I flew royal brunie in 2011 it was 700 return anyone tried them?

It's a new one on me, I've not flown JetStar either. That's not a bad price, the fares are seasonal as well, I found one from Adelaide/KL/Bangkok with AirAsia return for about $500 in May so it pays to shop around for departure dates if you are flexible.

As i have done over a hundred flights from S.E. asia to three states over the last 8 years for no apparent reason i became quite good at getting cheap fares, especially when you know three months is always coming up. Air asia has had some amazing deals. From K.L. to Perth return booked a year in advance was only $200.00. My latest flight for next Feb one way K.L. to Mel i booked in September for $100.00. My advice is look at all options but especially air asia and if you see a dirt cheap fare book it immediately because every time i went back even a day later it would be lots more. Everytime, and a computer expert told me they can track you which i found hard to believe but 100% of the time the price would rise. So book as soon as you see it is my advice. Can anyone believe it? When i was working getting huge pay way back then i couldn't afford an interstate train ticket to Perth. Now on half the poverty level with not an asset to my name i was forced to become a jetsetter by C/L. I think they are all jealous of us. Happy flying.

I know what you mean, you get the attitude over the counter... "I spent 2 weeks in Phuket and it cost me 5 grand and you claim you can live there?"

I know what you mean, you get the attitude over the counter... "I spent 2 weeks in Phuket and it cost me 5 grand and you claim you can live there?" Yes, I don't think they realise that DSPers overseas are living a lot more like those poor people most Aussies just see out the window of the tour bus (if they leave the resort at all!), which is very different to the typical Aussie holiday. If we do go down the path of setting up a new web site, it would be amazing if some of the DSPers here who are living overseas were willing to share their living expenses -- i.e. what they pay for rent, food, bills, household help, medical care etc. -- and ideally a pic or two of where they live. Nothing that identifies them personally, just something concrete to rebut the idea that we're living it up on indefinite vacation; something that shows that living like a local in a poor country is possible on DSP, and offers a life of modest comfort and security rather than tourist luxury.
