Hi all. I will be traveling to the Philippines very soon, I have tried to find how much alcohol i can take in my checked in baggage and its very confusing, how many bottles is a person allowed, I know I can buy rum there not this brand. What about food like Vegemite does this have to be declared then go through all the games with Philippines customs. As far as informing C/L I was under the impression they advise you to inform them when you will be temporarily absent from Australia,,I have spent hours on the phone being on hold trying to contact them,, with calls being disconnected or being on hold for more than 45 minutes that is extreme and i have for filled my obligations to them I believe. To clarify its 6 weeks paid, and is it still 13 weeks unpaid then return and have payments reinstated or has that changed also. Thank you for your help

As some one who once took a fridgie bag containing 20kg of steak into the Philippines I think it's safe to say that Philipino Customs don't overly concern themselves with food imports. Pack anything in jars (well wrapped in paper) into your check-in bag, I once worried an AirAsia lady with a jar of cheese spread.
Free import
For all passengers over 18 years old: • 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grammes tobacco • 2 bottles of alcohol of not more than 1 litre each • Duty free allowance for special passengers: Philippines residents who have stayed abroad more than 6 months may bring used electronic or electrical appliances and personal effects up to the value of PHP 10,000 • Contract workers: used personal effects up to value of PHP 10,000 and used home appliances, limited to 1 of each kind, up to the value of PHP 10,000 • Free export of up to USD 10,000 or equivalent amount of foreign currency. Any a mounts exceeding that amount must be declared.
The 6+13 weeks is still good to my knowledge.

Hi If they will mug me for Vegemite, the mind boggles what they will do for bottles of Bundy Rum. I think you will be safe..... 58php for the cheap 700ml, but you can buy better quality.... but if your talking Bundy Royal Liqueur, don't say a word.... there is a good whiskey they make here though... White Castle Whiskey booze.com.ph/whisky/white-castle-700ml.html

Booze is remarkably cheap in the Philippines. I was in a Zamboanga City market one day and noticed a bottle of Johnny Walker Black for the amazing price of 400 pesos, about $9 at the time. A friend who was with me said it had either been stolen or wasn't what it said on the label so I took a chance. It hadn't been stolen.

Not that I encourage the consumption of alcohol, but the White Castle beats Johny Walker by a mile, in my opinion. I have only seen it a couple of times and it was about 90Php. Very smooth. They even advertise it as 'headache free' and I can agree

Most of the Johnny Walker range is over rated (and over priced) in my opinion. If I have a Scotch (a rare event) it will usually be a single malt.
Back in the day I dwelt in the fair city of Vientiane and often saw people online tout the local Beer, Beer Lao, as the best beer in Asia. Some even went as far as to say it did not cause hangovers but they obviously had never drank as much of it as I had.

Thank you for your help OAP? 6 weeks fully paid with all supplements intact. Up to 26 weeks (26 weeks includes the first 6 weeks) at basic pension rate of $751 per fortnight. Departure and return should be automatically submitted to CL from Immigration. Yes it's good to tell them you are leaving, but you could also use the International Toll Free Number as soon as you are in PI. Call them when you get back. Where in Philippines?

You haven't said above whether you are on DSP or OAP. www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/enablers/outside-australia#DisabilitySupportPensionI don't know anything about DSP, and even the link here is confusing and complicated. IMO you take one major risk if your payments are stopped at 6 weeks and you hope to have the payments reinstated. OAP, 26 weeks, that should be clear on the link. No supplements after 6 weeks. La Union is about 140 km from where we live. It is a fairly long 4 hour bus trip, to Vigan City and 9 km beyond, because of road works and passing through small towns. But it might be worth a trip up, I can give you basic accom for a few nights, food included, let me know.

If on the OAP you can get unlimited portability, as chris says, the payments change a bit depending on how long you are away.
DSP you have the paid 6 weeks but if you overstay then you may have 13 weeks unpaid... I was told this personally by Centrelink but nothing in writing and there's nothing in the Act that covers it and I can't find anything in the rules. After 13 weeks you are definitely screwed.

I am on the DSP ans will be over staying a few days, i was under the impression they just stop your payments you loose a few days pay, with no drama please correct me if i am wrong. its strange my doctor thinks these rules are crazy and asks me about DSP and c/l duty of care to their clients , so let me know what to expect for over staying for a week over the six weeks. \\\thank you

A weeks loss of pension. As soon as you get back call them, tell them to reinstate you. Trust me on this, there is no problem. Enjoy the holiday and safe journey.
