I was thinking about the new portability rules which let DSP people only travel for 4 weeks within 12month before DSP is cut off and we have to reapply.
Lets take this example. In January 2015 i will travel 6 weeks and come back mid february. DSP will but cut off end January and I have to reapply. I will file intend to claim and support all medical papers. lets say i will have 20 points under the new guidelines and they reinstate DSP in March. Than i go for another 6 weeks lets say end march to start May. DSP will cut off again after 4 weeks. Upon returning in May I than will reapply again. Fill out paper work and doctor sign. Nothing has changed cos I was assest just two month before and they reinstate DSP again, lets say in July. Than I plan another trip for 6 weeks end July and come back End August.... and so on.... 4 times a year...
It still will let me travel many times, i just have to file the same papers all over again.
My doctor proberly will laugh when I come every 2month with the same paper to fill out.... And the JA Interview person too.
This could be alot of fun i guess and shows the nonsense of this portatibily rule.
Any thoughts on this?

So much for portability, do you think that they will ignore residency? Do you consider that eventually you may have to wait 2 years to reapply?

Correct banjo, always keep in mind that ur residence is in australia but if you stay more than 6 month in australia and have no other permanent place elsewhere this shouldnt be a problem. They changed the portability rule cos they lost cases at the appeals courts regarding residence.
As long as you keep residence in Australia, car, bank account, place to live... it should not be a problem to leave australia under the new rules 3 times for 6 weeks a year or you can go 4x a year for 4 weeks.
this would means outside 18 weeks which is far below 6month.
Just have to fill out the paper stuff all over again and do the interview.
Love to see the faces at CL when i come in every 2-3month with the same papers.

The point of reapplying is that you will slip, make a small mistake and fall below the required points and lose eligibility altogether. And 4 weeks means 4 weeks in 12 mths, they won't pay 1 cent over the 28 days. So if you thinking going 4 times a year, they won't pay you. That's just my understanding, don't take it granted

What they wanna achieve with the new rules is to review the so called DSP holidayers. Onces you got 20points than it doesnt matter if you go on multiple trips a year each 4 weeks long cos all what you have to to do on return is to reapply and submit the same papers again.

What is not being considered is that this year residency was a hotchpotch of rules and opinions.
Next year the legislation will probably clearly state that more than 4 weeks away is automatic loss of residency with all sorts of draconian rules for getting it back.
I really cannot see it will be that easy, look at how much we have learned about P&R in the last 4 years, do you think Centrelink hasn't?
Everyone of those successful residency SSAT/AAT appeals would be required reading for them now.

DSP holidayers.....what's that mean? Applepie I'm really pleased for you....that you would be able to cope with such a process beggars belief. I am one of those Howard used to tamper with unemployment figures. A natural born fourth generation Australian who worked from age 13. The Commonwealth Medical Officer who determined I was eligible for my pension under a set of guidelines.....guidelines which have now become redundant, was known for their toughness. I have permanent ties to Australia... Home, car, rates and utility bills.....I have permanent ties with Thailand, FAMILY. Am I a holidayer? Are the people who have UP, overseas residents or holidayers? This all just gets sillier&sillier!! Cheers bear.

The gov. uses this tactic to stir up the ignorant mob against us, claiming everybody on welfare who flies out from this county is a DSP holidayer and therefore doesn't deserve a cent from taxpayers' money. Ever heard them mentioning about family ties? Noooo, because if they'd admit it, it would immediately been seen as racist. And most people here in AUS are so stupid they believe anything this idiot gov tells them to believe. ... stupidity has no limit...
Labor constant criticism to the Abott gov, B Shorten saying over and over that they will fight over GP tax, uni fees, but DSP? No, not a word, and media never ask about it either.
Palmer still hasn't replied to my email about clarifying where they stand on DSP / port.

all politician are in the same boat when it comes to DSP and portability. they have to fix the problem that howard/ruud government left behind in fixing unemployment numbers for many years by putting people on DSP.
now they wanna tame this 15billion monster. doesnt surprise me at all and this is all the start of way more to come.
