Fingers crossed this won't get through the senate. It's just too cruel - people have families and loved ones overseas

Just for the record have sent a letter to all senators and received an understanding and positive reply from Senator Ludwig ! Some of the senate are opposed to the portability changes for DSP recipients ! There is some home ! FOR WHAT ITS WORTH ! Reply was surprisingly supportive as i expected just another general ( bugger off as we don't care letter )i guess from this labour has some support for dsp portability but it seems the greens are the ones who will oppose any changes to January 1st draconian ruling ! Thank you for your recent mail. In response let me advise you that I have been personally notified by my representatives within my electorate that many other proposed welfare changes in the new budget are just as unwarranted, unnecessary and punish not only all current welfare recipients but all lower income earning Australians. I have also taken discussion with other senate members, especially with PUP and Greens representatives in response to these changes and have had significant support from the Greens. I can advise you that most new welfare reform as proposed by the current Australian Government , including portability changes for DSP recipients’ will be challenged by the Greens . In my own party there is a mixed opinion in regards to Welfare reform although it is a general concession that overseas portability for Old aged pensioners should always be unrestricted and should be available to DSP recipients in at least two categories as (a) For those with severe disability .. Indefinite and (b) for those who wish to travel ... at least 4 to 6 weeks absence at any departure from Australia. Sincerely The Honourable Senator Ludwig ALP

Email from Senator Ludwig : - (a) For those with severe disability .. Indefinite and
Now, I wonder if a) is referring to severe disability for terminally ill recipients or
is it for UP for a severe impairment and no future work capacity.
I wonder if he knows the difference between having a severe disability and having a severe impairment ?
This is my worry.... that the senators are told everyone who is severely disabled can apply for UP. Which is NOT true.
Is there anyone on this board who does not understand the difference ? PM me if you would prefer. I 'd like a general idea.

That is the problem ... here how i see it when it comes up soon in Parliament , Libs will claim that any DSP's that want IP can claim for it and if their are deemed severely disabled with no further work capacity or terminally ill or wheelchair bound that have a chance ....?
Libs don't have a view that periodic mental health is an impairment or deserves disability support pension payments. The only popularity that Abbot has is corporate Australia ( Big business ) thus the majority of Australians despise him as being dishonest and misleading . I really don't think the ALP are sympathetic to pensioners either , its only PUP and especially the Greens that give a shit ! The way i see it , the only chance for DSP's are PUP and The Greens , thus you have the numbers to block any bills ( changed ) at the senate .
