does DSP portability change require legislation ?
Or, as my friend believes, the change is already done as an administrative change ?
Anyone know for sure ?

www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Committees/Senate/Community_Affairs/Social_Services_2014_Budget_Measures“Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment (2014 Budget Measures No. 1) Bill 2014 and Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment (2014 Budget Measures No. 2) Bill 2014”
“On 19 June 2014, the Senate referred the Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment (2014 Budget Measures No. 1) Bill 2014 and Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment (2014 Budget Measures No. 2) Bill 2014 to the Community Affairs Legislation Committee for inquiry and report.”
“Submissions were sought by 25 July 2014. The reporting date is 4 September 2014.”So how many of the 800,000 on DSP had the knowledge or connectedness to stand-up for themselves. The hearing has received 62 submissions. 800,000 of the most unorganised people in Australia with thousands of the untold ... !

Did anyone of the 800,000 receive communication from a government department or Centrelink informing them they had the right to be heard ?
Wonder what a Senate Committee would have done with tens of thousands of submissions.
Be heard not herded - oh too late now.

This happened with the Tasmanian World Heritage legislation and it shows that sometimes weight of numbers can be brought to apply.
What you say about DSP recipients being disorganised is only too true, people that care about the environment are usually politically aligned but not so with our mob. Check out this forum, we have a volatile mix of Labor/conservatives/PUPs/Greens with too much energy wasted in proving each other wrong than showing themselves to be right.
One can only hope that the governments attack on Welfare will result in a coalescing of concerned people forming something similar to the great working class groups of the early part of the last century and late 1800s that brought about a labour and trade union movement that actually achieved something.

For anyone interested or attending the Public Hearings in Sydney on 20 / 21 August: A simple short rational follows: The claimed budget savings are: “The Government will achieve savings of $12.3 million over five years by reducing the amount of time Disability Support Pension (DSP) recipients can leave Australia and still receive DSP. Recipients will receive DSP for a maximum of four weeks in a 12-month period should they travel overseas.”……. from www.probonoaustralia.com.au/news/2014/05/federal-budget-ends-%E2%80%98days-borrow-and-spend%E2%80%99-treasurerSo when $12.3 million is divided by 800,000, that is a saving of $15 per DSP recipient, and if it is over five years, then a $3 saving per DSP person per year - what a huge number, or not, and if not for genuine savings, what is the purpose? The government’s budget proposal is not to allow DSP recipients the option to take unpaid absence from Australia (unless subjected to a stressful reassessment). So how can this proposal be about savings when the savings could be greater if DSP recipients were encouraged to take unpaid absence, not discouraged. It’s too clear, a proposal not about achieving meaningful savings but rather a dubious proposal aimed at causing distress to DSP recipients - how can it be considered a budget item? Holidays are good for the health and DSP recipients have the most health issues - so what is the target of our goons in government - lock in and exacerbate the unwell and at the same time punish those not voting for goons !

Far out.... Put in these terms, that's 6 cents per week savings. If I could only find my deeming letter I'd know for sure, but I think I'm losing at least twenty times that in imaginary interest. So wonder where those monies are going? Ahhh.. That's right our elected reps got a pay rise. Now unless I'm mistaken they are already saving $80.00 p/f for 7000 odd OS pensioners of various persuasion. My trusty calculator works that out to savings of $14,560,000. What funny little fellows they are! Cheers bear.

I want to attend that f'ing hearing, but who the f. gonna pay my airline ticket? Hockey from the $3.00 saving he'll get?
I don't think we have anybody in Sydney. I asked my folks down there, they not very interested. But we need someone to get there.
As for the savings , of course it s not about the savings it so obvious, but they don't care. Just look at the reply I got from that b*tch senator, fiona nash. Wrote about two pages with all the information, but she didn't even bother to read it. That's how much it worth all the emails.
That's why we need someone on that hearing to stick all the submissions on their heads.
Writing another email this weekend, 3 pages already, intending to send it to ALL the senators except the libsshits

Re: “have sent a letter to all Senators”
… is that all Senators in the house, or, all Senators connected with the Hearing, if the latter can you post up their email addresses.
Or, does anyone have a list of the Hearing Committee Senators.
