That is what they sent me - but the email speaks for itself.
If you have a think about it. It is in the ALP's best interests NOT to support these changes or the budget broadly. Australians hate Abbott and his government, and the ALP, PUP and the Greens have a lot to gain by opposing him, it could lead as far as a Double Dissolution (unlikely though because Abbott knows he would lose)
The government is already fronting the media saying they'll have to raise taxes if measures don't pass. I think they know the budget is doomed to fail in the senate. Have some hope everyone!

I have sent a follow-up email asking specifically if they will oppose PORTABILITY changes.

I have sent a follow-up email asking specifically if they will oppose PORTABILITY changes. I would have saved you the time, I already checked that out, and posted their very nasty reply. They will tell you the same thing, so don't put your hopes up! It doesn't hurt asking them though. It's better to check what sort of exemptions they've put in place, I bet none, except those which already apply, but with the 6 weeks it's very different. Talked to CI today, tomorrow will talk with some policy guy. And so you know PUP looks pretty hopeless too from the email I received today: "Please understand that this is an electorate office, not a party political office. I realise that many people do not understand the difference, so I will simply add that the staff here are employed by the Commonwealth Parliament and are committed to helping with constructive engagement between the Senator and the electorate. I am not placed to state what position will be adopted by Senator Wang and/or his colleagues, or the PUP party as a whole on a specific matter of policy. That would have to come, if they are so inclined, from the PUP office in Queensland. Regards, David." That how much they supporting us!

That how much they supporting us! 1) the Govt are proposing to put a new set of exemptions in place for DSP. These are the ones that cover acute family crisis, approved medical not available in Aust. and also humanitarian needs. 4 weeks at a time (multiple times per year allowed on these ones ) but the criteria are very strict ie family is only immediate, crisis is pretty much imminent death, and humanitarian, not sure, but includes child custody legal action but not visitation rights. Note, other payments that do not get general portability such as Newstart, get the ones above that are being introduced for DSP. The only difference is, Newstart etc get up to 6 weeks at a time, multiple times a year, whereas the D SP will only get 4 weeks a time. No mention anywhere why that might be. 2) Disappointing response from that David chap. I'd have thought he could've pushed for a policy position. @ Roxane, are you going to try and get an answer out of Queensland ? 3) Did CI suggest the policy maker? Is that some-one in the DSS department, or in C/Link ? Presume CI had nothing to report. Same old, not in legislation yet, no-one has told us anything ?

so how I see it that labor screwed us all over again with this 4 weeks and they won't change that no matter what, even if the world turns upside down, these vicious blood thirsty pitbulls will push it through
Their pathetic excuse comes down to the exemptions, which they recon are in place. Which might be true for the current 6 weeks, as it is multiple 6w, but with the 4 weeks, that would be very different. Now what I need from CI is to clarify black and white what it covers and what it doesn't, so I can stick it to that b*tch c. moore's nose. and than she can stick it up her... But CI would probably won't put anything in writing and they don't want anything to say b4 it's been legislated. So it's catch 22.
PS How much cost in TH a full face plastic surgery and a new passport? just kiddin ;-)

Many many years ago a bloke I knew made a very interesting comment about Labor and Liberal, and it was about Victorian politics. His family were sawmillers and had dealt with various Victorian government types for a 100 years. What he said to me, and he was a bit angry at the time because of a government decision, was "Labor get into power and screw people that the Liberals could not and then the Liberals get into power and screw people that Labor could not so they are the one team just screwing us all".

I sincerely hope that you are both wrong about Labor. I hope with everything inside of me that they oppose the changes in the senate, like they promised in their email to me.
