I have now been in the Philippines for 14 months and just paid for the next 2 month extension to take me to 16 months.
I originally understood that at the end of 16 months I had to do a FIFO from the Philippines and on return they reset the Visa extension clock back to zero and I paid accordingly.
However, I have learned that by paying an extra fee (Php1000) each 2 month visa extension I can go from the 16 month mark to 24 months before FIFO.
I have even seen on an expat site that it may be possible (?) to go to 36 months.
I would appreciate hearing from any member that has knowledge of the relevant maximum periods as to whether it is 16 months, 24 months or 36 months.
I will confirm it all with Philippines BI but I am so deaf it is difficult for me to interact with the staff when I am unsure of where I basically stand.
Thanks

One of the good things about Thailand is the land borders. If I have to leave for visa reasons I drive to Burma/Myanmar in less than an hour, park the car, walk in/walk out, have lunch and drive home.

Yeah Banjo, I think I said I envy your location for that very reason. I see from a news feed I get that crude oil has dropped about 20% over the last couple of months so I'm hoping aviation fuel and airfares will follow.

greenfella you can stay 3 years now in Philippines after that you must exit philippines then return and do it all over again Thanks bangalorebiker, I haven't got myself organized for the 6 month visa because when it was first introduced it was only through the Manila office, although I am aware it is now available from other offices. But it was the 3 years before having to FOFI that I wasn't sure about so didn't know when I should be budgeting for airline tickets and as Banjo mentioned on a thread about checking airline websites and panic attacks I must confess my eyes glaze over and my mind starts to shutdown at the thought of it all.
