I had to get a new passport this week and went down to the embassy in Bangkok. It's fairly simple, a straight forward form and pay your money. 10 working days wait which would have meant another return flight so, acting on advice from a friend who's a former immigration officer, I asked them to post it to me. The only glitch in the procedure was the passport photos I provided, I had a new batch made up last week but was informed that they were the wrong size. I had some others but these were rejected as "too old". So I had to go down the street from the embassy and get some more done, the officer who attended me allowed me to return during their lunch break and came out and finished the process. A temporary travel document was provided as they cancel your old passport immediately. It was accepted without question at the airport security and check in. About 10,500 baht for the supersize one. www.thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/Consular_P2.html

There was a guy there doing the paperwork to take his 3 month old baby to Australia, THAT paperwork and photos have to be spot on, no room for compromise at all.
