When you get back to Australia take the phone bill into Centrelink and ask for a refund. They can only refuse and if they do you may consider taking it further.

sorry guys, im still confused or maybe noone knows yet,
if we leave before january 1st and are overseas in January, will those days overseas in January be counted towards the 28 days portability?, or are they excluded and will fall under the old 6 week rule, because the pensioner left during 2014?
Im trying to make the decision to travel or not based on this because tickets are expensive for december, so if they do count towards the 28 days, it would be smarter to book a cheaper ticket early next year. you can also imagine that 10 weeks of travel is more appealing than 28 days. You can probably see the dilemma here. thanks.

You can probably see the dilemma here. thanks. Hi Highlander I previously asked this question to a centrelink staffer and the answer i received was ... Dsp"r can leave on or before the 31st December 2014 under the current 6 weeks portability including if overstay those current rules. Person also informed me that if returning within the current 6 weeks ruling , DSP 'r can leave again on or after the 1st January 2015 under the new 28 days portability ( single or multiple trips ..OK ) but only for a maximum of 28 days absence from Australia. However some members here also doubt the accuracy of this as the centrelink staffer did advise me to confirm this with centrelink international as they will have the written legislation and as the bill has just been passed maybe awaiting that . Suggest you contact centrelink international now as they must have some formal idea if not at least some clarification ,but my guess is as above you can leave before 1st January 2015 for 6 weeks ( current rule ) and when you return you have another 28 days in total portability during 2015. After contacting centrelink can you please post your outcome here so we can clarify this matter ? cheers
