Hi there im always interested to read the various stories all have and ask a lot of common points. I have viewed the site as a guest an some other similar ones. Even thing I may know some people on here. I have found the more you tell the gestapo (ss) the more they bother you. I once did the right thing advising of my travel an went thru 7mths of hell with reviews being checked by feds etc. They use (unknown to you) surveillance and other tactics. Some people I know o/seas were talking about a discrimination challange as to the varience in travel rights for disabilty pension to say the old age pension. Dont know how that would go.
Like others, will see what woes happin in May, 13 wks is not enough time. Does any body know how you go beyond this, it appears in there wording "If you continue to be incapacitated" but I dont know any one on dsp who has gone beyond 13wks. I have heard stories of the gestapo signing off on some people but when I have tried to ck it or them out sounds like BS. All take care an enjoy your time off Dog Island.

Welcome to the board getaway. Interesting points you make, I'm surprised you can get out of the country with out advising C'link, you could be setting yourself up for a massive payback of benefits if they ever find out, and all it takes is a check with immigration. The discrimination thing has been raised before, Welfare Rights told me years ago C'link were allowed to discriminate, the grandfathering system is a classic example.

Simple question, to which i know the official answer. Recently receiving disability pension, then married, moved from Centrelink payment of $740 to married couple payment of $580. How can they justify this???. They told me that basically 2 can live as cheaply[?] as 1!!!. Comments please 2. i looked for a "Pensioners Party" in Australia and was staggered that there isn't one. I guess you are a "Lobby Group'[?]. I have been In politics all my life and now as I approach 65 , want to get active in this area. Comments please

Is there something happening in May? With regards to the 13 weeks I would guess that C/L wouldn't know who was abiding by that rule unless they had a good reason to check . Still the best option is to report it as we aren't breaking any law

If you are married they take into consideration your partner if they work how much they get. So does you partner work, if so welcome to the C/L trap. This is the only place that people can receive information. C/L want all of us to get of the system, as it all too hard for them.

Stating what was wrong with you, and then it is up to C/L to decide if they accept what is wrong with you. I don't think they would take it too kindly if you did it on a regular basis. Other members could comment as well. But i would be very careful.

We sure could use some help from someone who knows how the other side plays. Feel free to bounce around some suggestions. We have talked of forming some kind of pensioner's union, but then haven't gotten around to it. Also, we would need a good spokesperson, as some of us are a bit too shy, or sick, to be our public face.

Thanks Spaceyone. Always loved stirring up politicians. Harrassing them, getting them to nail their colours to the mast. I think virtually every other Western democracy has a Pensioner party, and if there is a way to and enough to form a party, i'm into it. I have no fear of public speaking or the media. I'm close to nambucca heads, a retirement place if ever i saw one. I was wondering how I could access pensioners here and everywhere. I guess its the media etc. Remember Gillards blue before the last election when she said that old age pensioners weren't worth worrying about cos they mainly voted non Labor. The other lot are no better. I fear for people trying to live on just the old age pension, surely it can't be possible. Politicians make the decisions[ they tell Centrelink what to do] so we must "talk" to them! Their superanuation payments are obscene and must be highlighted. We can judge a society by the way it treats and values its aged people. It's time to act. If you want to form a pensioners party may be you spaceyone and i should be the founder members[?] Please stay in touch. How do we exchange email addresses so we can take this further?

Thats a great idea David. Is there really no voice for the pensioner in the land of politics? seems strange no one has thought of this before

I looked at the "new Members" board and it seemed that most people were on pensions prior to 65[?] I have been on a DSP for some 8 years and am a carer for my autistic son. 2 of you have responded favourably to the pensioner Party Idea. I hope a few more are interested so may be we can pool ideas. Some thoughts. Standing in Marginal seats, especially where there are many pensioners is obvious. You only lose your deposit if you get less than a small % of the vote. The major parties would be over us like a rash. Working out simple policies and doing Media interviews. Kicking in $10 each to put up a few candidates. I found that there was a pensioner Party in Oz which folded in 2007 and the notice board still survives and one comment says that the party wasn't supported because people were basically happy with the benefits they were getting!!!

There's been pensioners parties before but it's been too hard to keep them single issue. Pensioners are from all walks of life and all social levels; as we have seen here, they will never agree on all of the major issues that a party must have in common. Possibly the best way to do it would be to run as a group of independents with a few things in common.
